Founded in 1980, the Dance Group performs the repertory of choreographer Mark Morris, hailed as the 'the most successful and influential choreographer alive, and indisputably the most musical' (The New York Times), whose work is acclaimed for its ingenuity, musicality, wit, and humanity. Live music and community engagement are vital components of the Dance Group. It has toured with its own musicians, the MMDG Music Ensemble, since 1996, and regularly collaborates with orchestras and opera companies around the world. In addition to 17 full-time dancers, the organization currently employs 34 full-time staff and 75 part-time staff, teaching artists, and musicians.

In the heart of the Brooklyn Cultural District, the Mark Morris Dance Center, founded in 2001, is the hub of dance and music education in Brooklyn. The nine-studio building provides affordable classes in multiple genres for people of all ages, levels, with and without disabilities, accompanied by live music. The studios, a performance space, a Wellness Center, and ancillary spaces are all available to the community and to nonprofit organizations at subsidized rates. MMDG's Community Education Programs partner with public and private schools and community centers to provide customized classes. MMDG also offers customized dance workshops for persons with Parkinson's disease and their caregivers.

Description

SUMMARY:

Founded in 1980, the Mark Morris Dance Group is a 20-member dance company headquartered at the Mark Morris Dance Center located in the Downtown Brooklyn Cultural District in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Opened in September 2001, the Dance Center is home to the Mark Morris Dance Group, a thriving School, Studio Rental program and Wellness Center. The Dance Center is a bustling community-oriented space that serves over 4,000 people per week operating more than 12 hours a day.

The Facility Team Member position provides essential operational support with the primary responsibility of performing general cleaning of the dance studios and office spaces as well as assisting with general building maintenance. Working in concert with the Operations staff the Facility Team members will be expected to be flexible and adaptable in their support of on-site Dance Center programming.

There are day and evening part time shifts available. Applicants must have prior building/facilities cleaning experience, an eye for details and a great work ethic.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Building sanitization procedures
  • Cleaning (floors, walls, windows, bathrooms, and kitchen)
  • Sweeping, mopping and vacuuming floors
  • Dusting and wiping surfaces
  • Buffing and shampooing floors
  • Trash and recycling collection and removal
  • Operation of light and heavy-duty equipment
  • Cleaning outside building including sidewalk and terrace
  • Stock paper and soap products in restrooms and kitchen
  • Ensure that trash cans are clean, free of odor and lined
  • Snow removal
  • Respond to request for assistance from education/operations staff on radio
  • Adjusting studio temperatures and troubleshooting HVAC issues
  • Moving and delivering packages
  • Reporting incidents to the Operations teams
  • Event set-up with tables, chairs, etc...
  • Assist other employees as needed for Dance Center programs
  • Emergency sink/ toilet repair
  • Building Laundry

SCHEDULE: Multiple part time positions available – up to 20 hours per week; Day and Evening shifts available; Flexible schedule is a plus. Must be available to work Monday evenings, Saturdays and one Sunday per month.

COMPENSATION:

  • Starting rate: $20 per hour
  • Paid Time off includes up to 20 hours accrued vacation, up to 56 hours accrued sick/personal leave, up to 10 Holidays and additional Bonus days that vary from year to year.

Position Requirements

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to climb stairs and utilize stairways; elevator usage will be limited 
  • Must be willing to wear a respirator face mask and electrostatic backpack sprayer 
  • Comfortable wearing a mask when requested and following all safety guidelines
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, hold, and/or carry objects and equipment weighing 25-50 lbs. on a frequent basis
  • Must be able to stand for up to 4 hours at a time on a frequent basis
  • Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl frequently throughout the day

REQUIRED TRAINING

All Facilities members will be required to complete the following training in addition to compliance with MMDG COVID-19 Safety Plan and Vaccination Policy

  • Basic First Aid/CPR/AED – 4 hrs
  • FDNY Certificate of Fitness F03 (Place of assembly emergency personnel) – 2 hrs
  • Must acquire within 3 months of hire date
  • Respirator and Electrostatic Sprayer procedures – 3 hrs
  • Customer Service / Bystander / De-escalation – 1 hr
  • Dance Center Floor Warden and Fire Guard Safety Training
  • COVID Safety Protocols – 2 hrs

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • 3 years professional building/facilities or comparable experience
  • Bi-lingual a Plus
  • Ability to work as a team player and be willing to support building wide activities
  • Must be able to operate basic computer functions or willing to learn
