Hourly: $18.00 - $21.50

Job summary:

Provide routine nursing care in accordance with our established polices and procedures and as may be directed by the unit Charge Nurse, Director of Nursing or Director of Health Services, to assure that the highest degree of quality patient care can be maintained at all times.

Essential duties and responsibilities: Include the following; other duties may be assigned.

Perform all assigned duties in accordance with our established policies and procedures, nursing care procedures, and our safety rules and regulations.

Assist residents with activities of daily living including dressing, bathing, denture and mouth care, shaving, hair and nail care, in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Maintain confidentiality of resident and facility information.

Report all accidents/incidents and unsafe conditions to the nurse manager immediately.

Chart required information as instructed.

Answer resident call lights promptly; ensures that the nurse call system is within the resident's reach when in bed.

Serve drinking water as required; ensure that water pitchers are clean and filled with fresh filtered drinking water daily.

Attend and participates in educational in-service programs as required.

Ensure that assigned areas are neat, clean and that supplies are promptly stored and replaced as needed before the end of the shift.

Wash hands after caring for each resident.

Make beds and other light housekeeping tasks as directed.

Assist residents to and from bathrooms as needed. Reports any incident of unmanaged incontinence to the Nurse Manager.

Use all equipment and supplies as directed and in a safe manner.

Ensure that all resident rights to fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights, including the right to wage a complaint are protected.

Report maintenance needs to nurse or maintenance staff.

Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis.

Follow established infection control procedures.

Assist residents to meals and scheduled activities as needed.

Report any unauthorized medication found in resident's room to the Nurse Manager.

Pour and pass medications to residents according to the established policies and procedures.

 
Position Requirements

Qualifications (Education and/or Experience):

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Must be a high school graduate or equivalent and be at least 18 years of age. Must have a valid and current First Aid Certificate.

Must possess between six (6) and ten (10) years of experience in a skilled nursing care facility, other related medical facility or equivalent.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to read, write, speak in an understandable manner, and understand the English language and carry out oral and written instructions.

Must possess the ability to deal tactfully and work harmoniously with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public. Must be able to work cooperatively with staff from other departments as necessary.

Must possess the ability to maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment and maintain the appearance of nursing areas, regular inspection of nursing units for sanitation, safety and proper performance of assigned duties.

Possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear and see. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and peripheral vision. The employee must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday. The employee must be able to lift residents and medical supplies.

Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability to be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of relating to and working with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and at times, hostile people within the facility.
