Job summary:
Assist in planning, organizing, developing and directing the Nursing Service in accordance with government regulations and as may be directed by the Director of Nursing, assure that the highest degree of quality patient care can be maintained at all times.
Essential duties and responsibilities: Include the following; other duties may be assigned.
Assists in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the nursing service department, its programs and activities.
Develops and maintains a good working rapport with inter-department personnel, as well as other departments within the facility to assure that the department services and activities can be properly maintained to meet the needs of the patients.
Develops and maintains nursing objectives and standards.
Interprets department policies and procedures to personnel, patients, visitors, family members, etc., as necessary, assuring that all follow the established policies at all times. At least once a year, review the policies, recommending any changes.
Creates and maintains an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the department.
Meets with department personnel, on a regularly scheduled basis, to assist in identifying and correcting problem areas, and/or the improvement of services; evaluate your assigned personnel and make recommendations to the department director.
Reviews patient care plans, treatment plan, etc., at least monthly, and makes recommendation to the department director; orders prescribed medications, supplies, and equipment as established by our policies and procedures. Assures that narcotic records are current at all times.
Admits, transfers and discharges patients. Assists in arranging transportation, packing, as necessary; assures that patient is escorted to the discharge/transfer area.
Administers professional services such as: catherization, tube feedings, suction, applying and changing dressings/bandages, packs, colostomy and drainage bags, taking blood, sputum, urine specimens, massage and exercises, care of the dead/dying, etc., as established by our policies and procedures; check patient charts for specific treatment, medication orders, schedules.
Writes patient charge slips and submit to the business office.
Reviews physician's orders, transfer/preadmission information, and new diet orders/changes for completeness and forwards information to appropriate department. Reports all discrepancies of physician's orders, diet, charting to the department supervisor.
Carries out restorative and rehabilitative programs, to include self-help/care.
May perform minor housekeeping duties around the nursing unit.
Notifies the attending physician and supervisor/department director when a patient is discharged without approval. Assures that appropriate documentation is made in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Inspects the nursing service areas and practices for compliance with current applicable regulations at least monthly.
Works with the facility's consultants - pharmacy, medical records, social services, as necessary and implement recommended changes as required.
Assist physician in medical clinic as needed.
Assists in standardizing the methods in which work will be accomplished.
Assist Residents in IL and AL when needed.
Ability to provide total care for Residents as needed.
Assumes the authority, responsibility and accountability of directing the nursing service department and delegate authority, responsibility and accountability to other responsible department personnel.
Assures that the department is maintained in a clean and safe manner for patient comfort and convenience by assuring that necessary equipment and supplies are maintained to perform such duties/services, recommending to the administrator the equipment and supply needs of the department.
Resident's Rights Responsibilities:
Ensures that patient's rights to fair and equitable treatment, self determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights, including the right to wage a complaint, are well established and maintained at all times.
Maintains confidentiality of all pertinent patient care information to assure patient rights are protected.
Reviews complaints and grievances and makes necessary oral/written reports to the administrator.
