Grant Writer/Planner II

OVERVIEW:

The Grant Writer/Planner II, under the direction of the Planning & Development Director, will be responsible for both collecting and analyzing data relating to grant funding opportunities and working with tribal departments to secure funding. This will require searching available funding sources, work with appropriate staff to complete and submit grant proposals, collect and analyze data for various projects.

WORK LOCATION: Tribal Center on the Lower Elwha Reservation

SUPERVISED BY: Planning & Development Director

POSITION STATUS: Full-Time Regular/benefits

SALARY LEVEL: 17 (DOE)

WORK SCHEDULE: 8 am to 4:30 pm, Monday thru Friday/Varies

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

Will coordinate with tribal department directors to identify, develop and submit grants to support proposed projects and programs that are priorities to the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe (LEKT). Reviews and/or assists with the development of larger projects, field evaluations and assessments.

  1. Identify potential grant sources for various program areas per LEKT priorities; will also involve research for multiple programs including analyzing data and evidence based programs
  2. Develop planning studies and reports in support of new larger scale projects.
  3. Develop, edit and draft grant applications for accuracy, completeness and clarity in accordance with grant request for proposals and/or funding announcements.
  4. Work with planning staff to expand and compile reference materials as needed.
  5. Disseminate information on funding opportunities to tribal department directors and coordinate the proposal planning process if need be.
  6. Assist with the management of paperless (electronic) files of all grant applications and data on the existing tribal network.
  7. Prepare and work with tribal departments in accordance with the LEKT Grant Submission Policy including tribal council approval process.
  8. Prepare and present detailed reports on development proposals to tribal government and executive team.
  9. Collect a variety of statistical data, prepare reports, graphs and maps on topics such as census information, land use, opportunity zone, etc.
  10. Be available when needed to provide assistance in resolving issues and conflicts with funding agencies if not resolvable by the project director.
  11. Assist with all other planning department functions such as meeting with tribal programs to help resolve funding issues, strategic planning, comprehensive planning and community meetings.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

  • Extensive knowledge of grant writing, grant processes and practices for application submittal.
  • Knowledge of Grants.gov, JustGrants, Grantsolutions and any other grant management websites and ability to submit grants electronically.
  • Knowledge of federal and state financial support for tribal government programs.
  • Knowledge of effective writing techniques and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to interpret data, analyze results using statistical techniques.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines for grant opportunities.
  • Ability to participate as a team player to develop and coordinate grant projects.
  • Ability to interpret and apply granting agencies rules and regulations.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and coordinate multiple projects.
  • Knowledge of computer programs and applications, which may include Microsoft Office, Internet applications and database management.
  • Ability to work independently and complete tasks on time.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Preferred Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; will consider an AA degree with qualifying respective writing skills, data collection experience.
  • Preferred experience working with Indian tribes in fundraising activities.
  • Minimum three years related experience in grant writing and planning.
  • Ability to establish good working relationships with funding agencies, tribal members, tribal program directors/managers and the tribal Business Committee.
  • Valid Driver's License.

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS

  • Must be able to comply with the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe's Drug Free Workplace policies and personnel policies.
  • Other duties as assigned relevant to job.
