Description

Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital is seeking a dynamic permanent full time Registered Orthotic or Prosthetic Technician to join our team.

Our Orthotic and Prosthetic department provides a full range of services from Prosthetic limbs to Orthotic devices. Our team is made up of Certified Orthotists, Certified Prosthetists, Registered Technicians, a Physiotherapist and an Occupational Therapist who are clinically educated and trained to provide exceptional clinical value to our clients and their families.

We are looking for a Registered Orthotic or Prosthetic Technician to join this team of experienced clinical and technical professionals in our state of the art facility to provide orthotic and prosthetic services to pediatric and adult clients to improve mobility, function and independence. In addition to clinical work, this role also provides an exciting opportunity for the incumbent to engage in research supported through the department and the Bloorview Research Institute. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise in the design and fabrication of orthoses or prostheses (for both children and adults) and their components in such a manner as to provide maximum fit, function, cosmesis and workmanship
  • Determine, utilize and order appropriate components, materials and manufacturing processes
  • Fabricate and assemble a variety of orthotic and prosthetic devices
  • Assess and discuss manufacturing needs/componetry requirements with the clinical team
  • Provide education to student, visitors and interest groups
  • In partnership with clients/families and the interdisciplinary team, provides client and Family-Centred Care which is goal directed, evidence based and outcome oriented
  • Supports and respects the client/familys rights to make decisions based on their own values, beliefs and experiences
  • Bases practice on established policies, procedures and fabrication standards
  • Interacts with members of the interdisciplinary team and community providers to ensure an integrated service approach
  • Communicates in a timely and effective manner
  • Participates in quality improvement activities and supports the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment for staff, clients and families

Qualifications

  • Registered Technician in Orthotics or Prosthetics with Orthotics Prosthetics Canada (OPC)
  • Board Eligible Technical Interns may be considered
  • Graduate of a recognized OPC school
  • Registration in both Prosthetics and Orthotics (RTPO) will be considered an asset
  • Ability to effectively organize time and meet deadlines and to maintain schedule flexibility while ensuring quality of services/products
  • Demonstrated skill related to technical aspects of orthotic and prosthetic design and working knowledge of latest technologies
  • Demonstrated understanding of a Family-Centered Care service delivery model
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary and diverse team
  • Strong and effective organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving and time-management skills
  • Ability to diagnose and carry out repair procedures
  • Working knowledge of latest advancements and technological developments in the field
  • Report writing, basic computer skills
