Description

Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital is seeking a dynamic permanent full time Certified Orthotist to join our team.

Our Orthotic and Prosthetic department provides a full range of services from Prosthetic limbs to Orthotic devices. Our team is made up of Certified Orthotists, Certified Prosthetists, Registered Technicians, a Physiotherapist and an Occupational Therapist who are clinically educated and trained to provide exceptional clinical value to our clients and their families.

We are looking for a Certified Orthotist to join this team of experienced clinical and technical professionals in our state of the art facility to provide orthotic services to pediatric and adult clients to improve mobility, function and independence. In addition to clinical work, this role also provides an exciting opportunity for the incumbent to engage in research supported through the department and the Bloorview Research Institute. Key Responsibilities

  • Determine the most appropriate orthotic treatment plan and prescription requirements for paediatic and adult populations
  • Present opinions and rationale to clients/families and team members within a multidisciplinary environment
  • Supports and respects the client/family’s rights to make decisions based on their own values, beliefs and experiences
  • Able to completely carry out assessment, shape capture and rectification procedures
  • Evaluate the fit and function of the orthosis and perform adjustments as required
  • Responsible for the orthotic design and fabrication in collaboration with the technical staff
  • Ensure functional needs and goals of the clients are met
  • Provide education and instruction to the client regarding the proper wear and care of the orthosis
  • Initiate cost estimates for the payment of orthotic devices from ADP and other paying/funding agencies
  • Promote implementation of the highest quality control standards, latest technological developments and evidence-based practices in the field to improve the quality of life of clients
  • Document the rehabilitative process in accordance with Holland Bloorview policies and guidelines
  • Provide education to students, visitors and interest groups
  • Participates in quality improvement activities and support the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment for staff, clients and families
  • Participate in research activities within in the Orthotics and Prosthetics Department

Qualifications

  • Canadian Board Certified Orthotist in good standing with OPC
  • Proven ability to effectively address sensitive/complex issues with clients and families
  • Skills related to the clinical and technical aspects of orthotic design and manufacturing
  • Understand Family Centered Care service delivery model
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to meet deadlines while ensuring quality of orthotic services/products
  • Working knowledge of latest orthotic advancements and technological developments in the field
  • Experience working with children preferred
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary and diverse team
  • Strong and effective organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving and time-management skills
  • English language skills required to effectively communicate with colleagues and members of the public
  • Report writing, basic computer skills
