Advancement Associate 

Description

The Advancement Associate plays an important role within the Advancement Team by supporting the Annual Fund campaign. This individual will also cross train on Advancement Services functions including gift entry and gift acknowledgement to serve as back up as needed. This individual will manage their own portfolio of prospects while supporting the Major Gift Officers in their work.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide support to Associate Director of Annual Fund
    • List management
    • Direct mail appeals
    • Monthly renewal appeals
    • Digital campaigns
    • Special events and activities
  • Learn and work with software to enhance productivity of the Advancement Team
    • Raisers Edge
    • Centaman
    • Tessiturra
  • Support Advancement Services
    • Gift entry
    • Gift acknowledgements
    • Special letters
    • Other processes as identified
  • Donor outreach and solicitation
    • Develop and manage a portfolio of 50- 75 mid-level donors
    • Develop and implement a plan to increase giving from this portfolio
      • Contact donors by telephone and through the mail
      • Arrange 25-50 in person donor meetings annually
      • Arrange for 10-25 solicitations annually
    • Respond effectively to individual donor inquiries
  • Perform other duties as assigned
 
Position Requirements

The candidate chosen will be an entrepreneurial advancement professional who will enjoy contributing to a successful annual giving program, assisting other advancement team members and building their own personal prospect portfolio. Additionally, she or he will be able to synthesize MSM’s activities into a coherent message for both external and internal audiences.

  • Must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccination and booster by date of hire to be considered. Proof of vaccination will be required.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related experience
  • At least one year of progressively responsible work experience managing donor related activities
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail; accuracy is a must. Committed to excellence
  • Exceptional computer skill, including data entry skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, along with experience with CRM software (Experience with Tessitura CRM highly valued)
  • Ability to exercise good judgement
  • A demonstrated creativity and organizational ability
  • Good understanding of protocol and etiquette with the ability to employ tact in difficult situations
  • Talent for working closely with diverse teams of people in order to accomplish complex tasks and initiatives on schedule and on budget
  • Ability to adapt to constantly evolving priorities with a positive, confident spirit
  • Other job-related education/experience may be substituted for part of these requirements

The Museum is home to more than 500 historic watercraft, including four National Historic Landmark vessels, most notably the 1841 whaleship Charles W. Morgan, America's oldest commercial ship still in existence.
