Annual Salary: $45,136

Monday - Friday 12 noon - 8p, with 1 Saturday and Sunday per month

Since 1971, Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board has provided a comprehensive continuum of high-quality, essential, and community-based services to citizens of the Peninsula who are affected by mental illness, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorders.  

Mobile Crisis Counselor provides co-response to behavioral health, substance use and homelessness related calls dispatched through the emergency and non-emergency 911 Call Center or Regional Crisis Call Center (9-8-8) per protocol of MARCUS Alert. Co-response includes a pairing with first responders as requested and/or other behavioral health personnel which may include a law enforcement officer, medic employed with the Fire Department, or other CSB Crisis Counselor, Case Manager or Peer Recovery Specialist. Performs preliminary mental status assessments and short-term crisis intervention services. Makes referrals or coordinates admissions to treatment services and assists with transport of individuals to access treatment in clinics, day programs, crisis stabilization unit, medical and psychiatric facility or shelters. Conducts follow-up contacts in-person or by phone or reassessment as necessitated. Incumbent may assist in orientation or providing consultation of other counselors.

Requirements: Master's Degree in human services with one year of experience in a psychiatric care setting. Must be registered with the Board of Counseling to practice as a QMHP-A or register as a QMHP-A trainee within 30 days of employment. Valid Drivers Licenses.

The selected candidate must successfully pass a criminal history fingerprint background investigation, DMV record check, Child Registry search, drug screening test and employment reference checks.
