Position Equipment Specialist  
Description

SUMMARY: Responsible for coordination of all contributing disciplines and resources in the completion of projects or management of the program. Designs, develops, supports, and maintains the organization's systems infrastructure, including the implementation and design of hardware and software. Analyzes, develops, modifies, tests and maintains current and evolving TYQ-23A issues and technical requirements for the system. Makes updates to system related installation documentation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Redefine spares requirements based upon known Mean Time between Failure (MTBF).
  • Understand system complexity as it relates to COTS software integration/configuration issues.
  • Implement quality controls into the manufacturing process based on known deficiencies.
  • Build instructions into organizational TOs to safeguard against damage.
  • Compare trends on high failure items and take proactive measures to ensure extended warranties are purchased prior to expiration and material/components are ordered in advance.
  • Ensure that alternate parts are available to prevent/reduce system downtime due to long lead times.
  • Repair/replace system assets that are out of warranty or purchase miscellaneous material the field might need (cables, antennas, panels, etc.).
  • Accompany FSRs, as necessary, to perform on-site troubleshooting and maintenance. Identify areas of improvement for ECPs.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
 
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Must be able to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC) and currently possess active Secret clearance.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree with four years’ experience trouble shooting all aspects of the TYQ-23A or similar system. Five additional years’ experience may be substituted for bachelor’s degree.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Operations analysis.
  • Problem solving skills for complex technological systems.
  • Systems evaluation.
  • Excellent team attitude.
  • Must be self-directed and have the ability to work independently without supervision.
  • Knowledge of Internet, routers, switches, firewall, computer hardware and software.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: 25% travel may be required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Able to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time. Able to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist and reach. Able to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Typical office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
