Our pay is very competitive and benefits vary for seasonal or year-round staff. Description

Position Title: Assistant Golf Professional

Reports To: Head Golf Professional

Department: Golf Shop

Employment Dates: Temporary Seasonal; May - Mid October

Purpose of Position: Under the direction of the Head Golf Professional, the Assistant Golf Professional is non-exempt seasonal position responsible for assisting the Head Pro in managing golf department operations, including but not limited to, golf play and tournament coordination, shop sales and management, and training and supervising golf shop attendants. Ensures the highest level of service as meets expectations of Club members. Performs all work in accordance with essential functions and responsibilities as described below and in the spirit of the Club's mission and vision.

Responsibilities:

Duties shall include but not be limited to:

  • Provides a welcoming and responsive environment to members and their guests; reserves tee times, books lessons, answers phones, and maintains a friendly, positive, helping, and motivated attitude at all times.
  • Along with golf staff, conducts Pro Shop retail operations; sells, displays, promotes and merchandises inventory. Assists with scheduling and promoting demo days and trunk shows. Makes recommendations on product and seasonal buying plan. Ships product and manages special orders. Possesses a thorough understanding of the point of sale system and helps to maintain it under the direction of the Head Golf Professional.
  • Professionally, respectfully, and tactfully interprets, informs and enforces Club policies with members, guests, and staff.
  • Assists with coordination of all golfing events, such as 9&Dines, tournaments, and outings.
  • Teaches lessons utilizing V1 video equipment, FlightScope launch monitor and BodiTrak. Conducts or assists with junior camps, golf clinics, and schools.
  • Performs club fittings and repair.
  • Acts as host for Club members and their guests as needed.
  • Monitors and regulates pace of play as directed by the Head Golf Professional.
  • Assists with recruitment, hiring, training, and supervising of golf shop staff.
  • Performs daily opening and/or closing procedures, as designated. Compiles and reviews daily work for completeness and accuracy. At PM shift close accurately completes POS end of day processing.
  • Assists with inventory management; conducts monthly inventories, prepares orders and returns. Accurately records, reviews, and approves vendor invoices and credit memos. Minimizes shrink by following inventory control procedures.
  • Along with golf staff, responsible for the correct appearance, organization, and cleanliness of the shop and stock room areas, equipment and fixtures. Reports deficiencies and maintenance concerns. Troubleshoots computer issues with tech support as directed.
  • Observes all Club safety practices and protocols.
  • Assists with NGC seasonal opening and closing procedures.
  • Keeps informed of industry standards and trends. Pursues related continuing education and training opportunities. Maintains necessary certifications and applicable professional affiliations.
  • Attends and conducts golf and Club related meetings as required.
  • Performs other duties as designated by the Head Golf Professional.
 
Position Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Detailed knowledge of golf industry standards and retail shop operations
  • Requires a polished and professional demeanor in manner and appearance
  • Maintains an efficient golf game with a USGA handicap of 3 or less
  • Club Repair skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; skilled in calligraphy
  • Computer skills (Excel, Word, Publisher, POS System, Tee Time Software, Event Man)
  • High attention to detail and great organizational skills

Experience/Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Active classification (Class “A” License) in the PGA of America or LPGA
  • Previous golf shop merchandising experience, preferred
  • 100 hours annually of teaching experience, preferred

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Work tasks are performed mainly outdoors and involve physical strength and endurance. Must be able to work in varying temperatures and inclement weather.
  • Requires frequent bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling, intervals of walking, standing, and sitting during the day. Must have the ability to walk rolling terrain.
  • Requires communicating effectively with members, guests, co-workers, and supervisors.
  • Must be able to lift and transport up to 50 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis.
  • May also experience exposure to the following: carbon monoxide fumes from cars, equipment, various insects and native/domestic animals, potentially damaging noise levels, and a variety of dirt, mud, dust, pollen, and approved pesticides and cleaning chemicals.
  • Must be able to drive golf carts and use maintenance related equipment.
  • Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary vehicles and equipment.

Projected Work Schedule:

Must be available for a full time work schedule to include days, evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed. Average hours worked each week to be approximately 40-50 hours. An additional work day may be required during a tournament week. Any expected absence from this work schedule will need to have prior approval from the Head Golf Professional.
