Extant Aerospace is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer in Melbourne, Florida.
Extant Aerospace specializes in obsolescence management of older electronic and avionics products ensuring continued sustainment of the product lifecycle.
Responsibilities
Responsible for supporting the continued operation of older electrical/electronic designs and the Extant design process by
Evaluating new components for form, fit, function equivalency to obsolete components
Circuit design, including schematic capture and PCB layout
Designing interposer solutions for functionally equivalent parts that do not have the same fit
Creating project plans, statements of work, product specifications, verification and validation test plans, and technical drawings for design projects when a re-design of an electrical assembly is required to support obsolescence
Overseeing design reviews (PDR/CDR) and authoring all required documents
Providing technical expertise to production and repair departments to help trouble-shoot manufacturing and field issues
Supporting AS-9100 Process Audits
Assignments may include both engineering development and production/repair support roles, which will require a broad knowledge of technical expertise as well as detailed product knowledge in order to safely and efficiently perform formal problem root cause analysis, perform corrective action planning and execution, and identify facility/test equipment needs.
Work is performed with minimal supervision guided by policies and procedures. There is considerable latitude in making decisions which may have relatively significant impact on the program/project. Clear and concise presentation of technical data at meetings and design reviews to peers, management, and customers will be required. May also function in project leadership role on moderately sized projects or report to more senior leaders on large projects.
Qualifications
To succeed in this role, candidate will need the ability to analyze existing electrical/electronic designs and determine operational characteristics in effort to identify and select replacement components
Candidate must be able to perform troubleshooting diagnosis of components, subassemblies, and test equipment. Candidate must be able to communicate work products through written reports and oral presentations.
Candidate should have industry experience designing electrical and electronic circuits with PCB layout experience.
Desired Experience
Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in electrical engineering or other technical discipline, plus 5 or more years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Broad knowledge of electrical/electronic design
Hands-on experience troubleshooting components, electrical assemblies, and test equipment.
Skilled at performing system integration and test.
Schematic capture and circuit board layout utilizing electrical CAD applications, i.e., Mentor Graphics, Altium, OrCAD, etc.
Experience in mechanical CAD applications a plus, i.e., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.
Software / Firmware / PLD experience is a plus
RF experience is a plus
Military systems design experience requiring compliance with specifications such as MIL-STD-704 and MIL-STD-461 is a plus
ITC Jurisdiction and Classification experience is a plus

Possess familiarity with high reliability electrical, printed circuit board, and wiring harness assessment standards.
Develop products through creative design, analysis, fabrication, and test
Author and review engineering documentation, i.e., product specifications, test specifications, design reviews, etc.
Ownership of design projects from conceptualization through production release
Works independently with minimal supervision
