SUMMARY

The Donations Attendant acts as a public representative of Opportunity Village and its mission and ensures that donors receive a pleasant donation experience. Works flexible hours at multiple locations. Accepts material goods donations at different locations by providing customer service to repeat donors and potential donors. Maximizes the value of donated goods by proper handling, sorting, safekeeping and recording of inventory.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Responsible for making sure donation site opens on time and that it stays open until time to close.
  2. Offer tax receipts to donors and provide assistance in unloading donations.
  3. Handle goods and equipment properly to avoid damage or breakage.
  4. Assist drivers in loading/unloading of goods or equipment.
  5. Communicate needed reports and information in a timely manner.
  6. Sort and label goods by category and place in proper containers or equipment.
  7. Fill out needed production and inventory reports.
  8. Stack donated goods neatly and safely.
  9. Perform basic mathematical calculations including addition, subtraction, division and multiplication.
  10. Hand out marketing materials to donors.
  11. Greet donors and provide information about Opportunity Village and its donation policy, mission, and programs.
  12. Maintain clean housekeeping around donation area (about 50 ft. radius).
  13. Perform processing of donations when needed.
  14. Majority of work is conducted outdoors with limited environmental controls along with exposure to heat, cold and dust.
  15. Travel to other locations when needed.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISEORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Donations Attendant has no direct supervision of other team members.

 

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals, co-workers, supervisors, donors and the public (verbal and written).
  • Must possess social perceptiveness to assess and understand other’s reactions and behaviors.
  • Ability to respond and work with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Must be able to recognize items which are not sellable due to damage or not acceptable due to guidelines
  • Must be able to perform with limited supervision.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Required: One year in customer service, communication and dealing with a diverse public.
  • Required: Reliable transportation.
  • Preferred: Experience working with individuals with disabilities.

 

PHYSICAL ABILITIES & WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Ability to stand, walk and climb in and out of a truck majority of the work day.
  • Frequent bending, standing, lifting.
  • Ability to endure all outside weather conditions and high noise levels.
  • Ability to tolerate stress.
