Academy Library Processing Intern – Summer 2023 (Gold Rising)

Job Summary:

The Academy’s Margaret Herrick Library is seeking an enthusiastic, detail oriented intern to assist the Core Collection Reference Files. Your duties will include assisting with processing, housing, cataloging and filing a collection of ephemera and performing database cleanup. Students enrolled in a graduate library and information studies programs focusing on archiving, with a strong interest or undergraduate degree in film studies are encouraged to apply.

Under the supervision of the Supervisor, Production Files of the Core Collection Reference Files, this paid 8-week internship offers the opportunity to acquire hands-on experience processing ephemera while learning about the library’s databases and collections.

This is a limited term internship position beginning in June 2023 through August 2023. The hourly wage for this role is $16.25.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with processing and cataloging archival advertising materials such as lobby cards and promotional ephemera.
  • Assist with various database cleanup projects.
  • Assist with additional departmental assignments and projects as needed
 
Position Requirements

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Enrolled in an ALA-accredited Master’s degree program in library and information science or moving image studies.
  • Bachelor’s degree in film studies, history, art history or a related field preferred.
  • A minimum of 2.8 GPA
  • Knowledge of and interest in the film industry and film history, with a broad awareness of independent features, foreign language cinema and current releases.
  • Experience or coursework in advanced searching tools, digital preservation and metadata schemas preferred.
  • Knowledge of archival best practices, preservation and current metadata standards.
  • Familiarity with library systems, content management systems and digital asset management systems.
  • Excellent computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office required.
  • Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently and collaboratively.
  • Detail oriented, self-motivated, with strong communication and problem-solving skills.

This internship is part of the Academy’s Gold Rising program, an 8-week internship enhancement program that incorporates learning opportunities including an intensive two-day orientation, weekly panels, exclusive networking events, workshops, screenings, and mentorship opportunities with Academy members.
