Job Summary

eCatalyst Healthcare Solutions is looking for Outpatient Surgery Medical Coders to join our team and be a part of an exciting opportunity with one of our premier clients.

The Outpatient Surgery Medical Coder will review medical record documentation and assign the appropriate medical codes in compliance with regulatory coding guidelines and organizational policies and procedures, thereby ensuring complete, accurate, and consistent coding. eCatalyst Healthcare Solution's client-focused approach stems from our commitment to provide exceptional services with unrelenting client focus.

As an Outpatient Surgery Medical Coder, you will review ICD-10, CPT, APC, and CPT Modifiers, while maintaining a 95% or better overall accuracy rate. Other deliverables will depend on the client and their expectations.

Essential Functions

  • Reviews physician documentation and assigns ICD-10 and/or CPT/HCPCS codes, as supported by medical record documentation.
  • Ensures optimal reimbursement of all cases in compliance with CMS policies and procedures and Official Coding Guidelines.
  • Invokes facility's physician query process when code assignments are not straightforward, or when documentation in the medical record is incomplete, inadequate, ambiguous, or unclear for coding purposes.
  • Keeps abreast of coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements.
  • Ensures client service level agreement quality and productivity standards are met.
  • Reviews organizational specific coding reference material.
  • Utilizes our client's electronic medical record (EMR), encoder, and computer-assisted coding (CAC) software as directed.
  • Ensures optimal reimbursement while maintaining compliance with CMS and third-party payor policies and guidelines.
  • Maintains compliance with eCatalyst and client's coding policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Abstracts pertinent information from the medical record, per client guidelines.
  • Consistently maintains 95% or above accuracy rate while meeting established productivity standards.
  • Completes daily production log and daily time keeping requirements.
  • Attends and participates in eCatalyst and client meetings as requested.
  • Completes coding continuing education and maintains coding credentials.
  • Ensures HIPAA compliance at all times.

Position Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • 3+ years of Facility Outpatient Surgery coding experience.
  • Coding vendor experience preferred.
  • Remote coding experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in multiple EMR’s, encoders, and the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Educated in HIPAA regulations; must maintain strict confidentiality of patient and client information.
  • Consistently achieves quality and productivity standards.
  • Ability to organize and complete work in a timely manner.
  • Ability to read, write and effectively communicate in English.
  • Ability to understand medical/surgical terminology.
  • Above average written and verbal communication skills.

Required Certifications

The candidate must have, and maintain at least one of the following professional certifications:

  • RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician)
  • RHIA (Registered Health Information Associate)
  • CCS (Certified Coding Specialist)
