Description

BASIC FUNCTION:

Consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the experience of the cooperative members/owners and subscribers of Roanoke Connect. Provides project management to ensure timely and cost-effective completion of construction activity with the ability to coordinate diverse tasks requiring exceptional organizational skills. Works with limited supervision/guidance. Is accountable for individual results and impact on team.

 

Ideal candidate will have experience in the following areas: Fiber optics, telecommunications engineering, maps and file formats (CAD, DWG, DWF, As-built), permitting, database, analytics, new technology and med/large scale operations.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Construction Management (100% of time)

  1. Seeks cooperation and input in project assignments; coordinates needed meetings or hearings to gather input and meet procedural requirements.

  1. Tracks all activity for Construction and generates reports for management and team to keep apprised of progress and any anticipated issues.

  1. Maintains a high level of efficiency, assuring timeframes are met.

  1. Ensures all projects meet or exceed minimum specification to Company Construction Policy, RUS, FCC Technical Standards, NEC, OSHA, State, County and/or City and all other applicable agencies.

  1. Ensures that resources (i.e. vehicles, equipment and inventory) are maintained in proper working order.

  1. Ensures the execution of overhead/underground construction duties such as: placing hardline cables, frame and strand poles, transfer facilities between poles, place cable in joint trench, and safe operation of construction vehicles and cable trailers.

  1. Monitors performance of construction crew to established goals and objectives.

  1. Oversees the activity of subcontractors.

  1. Inspects the quality of work of employees and contractors regularly, ensuring that all standards (federal, state and Company) are followed.

  1. Performs on the field ride-out/walk-out of project sites for the purpose of surveying, gathering and recording details, finding solutions, inspecting/monitoring progress, performing post-construction review.

  1. Coordinates all phases of construction projects including pre-construction meetings, site surveys, permit and license applications, make-ready, design and documentation, material procurement, contract labor requirements, and activation.

  1. Meets and interacts with Government/Town officials and representatives from Utilities, Contractors, outside agencies, consultants, and internal business partners.

  1. Lead RFP process, communications, and document maintenance

  1. Monitors job costs, evaluates change orders and controls the cost of work in progress to budget.

  1. Develop GIS maps and resources required by field teams; timely delivery of construction maps and splice sheets for employees/contractors.

  1. Reviews, resolves, follows-up customer request and complaints.

 

 
Position Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma / GED. Over 4 years of telecommunications or other utility experience required. Prior experience as Construction Inspector/Coordinator is preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Knowledge of computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.

  1. Knowledge of proper telephone etiquette,

  1. Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

  1. Possess a positive attitude

  1. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills

  1. Adjusting actions in relation to others' actions.

  1. Communicates effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience

  1. Ability to work with the public.

  1. Ability to learn safe working procedures and follow the same.

  1. Ability Translating or explaining what information means and how it can be used.
