About the Organization Easterseals Louisiana (ESL) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to change the way the world defines and views disabilities by making profound, positive differences in people's lives everyday. Established in 1951, our organization supports over 8,600 individuals (whom we refer to as Participants) with a variety of disabilities. A leading provider of disability services, ESL has physical locations in 8 regions of Louisiana and our array of programs include; support coordination (case management) for children, adults and elderly participants, a wide range of behavioral health and housing services, early intervention services for infants and toddlers, and a school setting called The Chartwell Center in New Orleans.

Description

Summary of Position:

The VP of Philanthropy is responsible for leading and managing the organization's philanthropy efforts. This includes developing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising plan, identifying and cultivating relationships with major donors, corporations, and foundations, and overseeing the planning and execution of fundraising events. The VP of Philanthropy will also be responsible for managing the organization's grants program, including researching and writing grant proposals and reporting on the use of grant funds. The VP of Philanthropy will be responsible for overseeing our marketing and communications and working with the President/CEO to establish a planned giving program.

 

Essential Job Duties:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan to support the organization's mission and goals along the development continuum from annual gifts to planned giving.

  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit major donors, corporations, and foundations for funding.

  • Regularly meets or exceeds organization’s fundraising goals.

  • Manage the organization's grants program, including researching and writing grant proposals and reporting on the use of grant funds

  • Steward relationships with donors including ensuring that proper acknowledgments are provided in a timely manner.

  • Collaborate with the leadership team to align fundraising efforts with the organization's strategic plan.

  • Monitor and report on fundraising progress and results to the organization's leadership team.

  • Manages the development committee made up of volunteers and board members to leverage their networks and expertise

  • Participates in related networks; maintains effective relationships with national and local entities such as the Easterseals National Office, AFP, etc.

  • Ensure compliance with all fundraising regulations and guidelines.

 

Marketing and Communications:

  • Lead department responsible for communicating ESL story to external stakeholders through a multichannel approach

  • Develops and implements strategy to grow ESL’s audience and in turn influence with stakeholders.

  • Works to diversify ESLs communications as industry trends changes

  • Endeavors to secure placement for ESL messaging with press outlets

  • Serves as a spokesperson for ESL

 

 
Position Requirements

Qualifications:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g. marketing, business, nonprofit management, etc.) required; advanced degree in Business, Healthcare, or Marketing and Communications or a related field is strongly desired.

  • At least 7 years of experience in fundraising or development leadership, preferably in a nonprofit setting

  • Leadership skills to lead the team to follow-through the plans and goals set forwards.

  • Proven track record of successful fundraising and donor cultivation

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills

  • Ability to craft written communications independently

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Intermediate-level knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Ability to use internet browsers, video conferencing including the Google Workspace

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, where applicable.

  • Serves as a member of the ESL emergency activation team.

  • Ability and willingness to travel, as required.

  • Perform other duties as needed or assigned.

 

Preferred

  • Currently holds, or is working towards CFRE

  • 10 years of experience in fundraising or development, preferably in a nonprofit setting

  • Experience in building a fundraising program from the ground up

  • Proficiency in donor database software and Microsoft Office Suite products, specifically word and intermediate excel.

  • Existing relationships with funders across Louisiana
