About the Organization Established June 15, 1971, Valley Community Services Board is a publicly funded organization where citizens of Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta and Highland Counties can receive Behavioral Health, Substance Use and Developmental Services services. Valley Community Services Board serves as the single point of entry into publicly funded mental health, developmental, and substance use disorder services for these localities.

Description

Valley Community Services Board is looking for a Co-Leader to join the ACT team. As a member of the ACT leadership team, the ACT Co-Leader works closely ACT team members to enhance psychiatric stability, quality of life, access to available resources, and appropriate use of medical services for individuals with serious mental illness (SMI).

Essential Functions

  • Provides guidance, direction, and accountability for the ACT team in collaboration with the ACT Leader.
  • Serves as an advocate for individuals with SMI.
  • Provides direct services as needed including, but not limited to, case management, rehabilitation counseling, housing support, and vocational readiness assistance.
  • Conducts crisis intervention.
  • Develops and maintains productive professional relationships with community partners.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable regulations and policies.
  • Coordinates with Western State Hospital (WSH) Discharge Liaison for any current WSH inpatient clients being referred to ACT or currently on ACT census.
 
Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • ACT model of care.
  • Biopsychosocial assessment.
  • Human personality, growth, and development.
  • Assessment and on-going evaluation of mental health and co-occurring disabilities.
  • Supportive counseling techniques (individual, group and family) as it relates to individuals receiving mental health and substance use treatment.
  • Crisis intervention.
  • Psychosocial rehabilitation.
  • Case management services.
  • Person-centered, individualized treatment planning.
  • Casework documentation.
  • Interagency services coordination.

Skills Pertaining to:

  • Mental status assessment, treatment planning, intervention implementation, and evaluation of client needs.
  • Completing diagnostic and assessment evaluations of SMI clients.
  • Providing individual, group, and family counseling as needed.
  • Providing case management services for individuals with SMI.
  • Accurate completion of casework documentation.
  • Effective written and oral communications.
  • Providing emergency/crisis intervention services to individuals with SMI.
  • Providing mental health consultation and education services along with coordinating services for individuals with SMI.
  • Working cooperatively with Valley CSB mental health services team members and community partners involved in the provision of outpatient clinic services.
  • Developing and implementing psychosocial rehabilitation services for individuals with SMI.

Ability to:

  • Work effectively with clients with SMI/Co-Occurring Disorders.
  • Effectively implement interagency coordination of services for individuals receiving services.
  • Work cooperatively with Valley CSB staff involved in the provision of outpatient consumer services.
  • Exercise sound judgment.
  • Demonstrate initiative.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards.
  • Work a rotating schedule and participates in the ACT on-call system.
  • Maintain schedule flexibility to accommodate client needs as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and work positively toward solutions when change or problems occur.
  • Work and display cooperation within a dynamic team environment.
  • Provide supportive training/counseling to staff as needed.
  • Work independently in an expert/authority role when necessary to support Team.

Minimum Qualifications

In order to be minimally qualified, candidates must meet all of the following qualifications:

  • Master's degree in social work or related field from an accredited program,
  • One year of clinical experience serving individuals with SMI,
  • Current LMHP or LMHP eligible in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and
  • A valid Virginia driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
 
Salary Information Up to $55,000.00 annually, plus benefits.
