Lineman 

Description

Position receives direct supervision from Lead Lineman. Constructs, maintain sand repairs electrical distribution and transmission systems, including, stringing, wire, setting poles and anchors, hanging transformers, lighting arresters, cutouts, cross-arms and insulators . Installs Christmas lights downtown. Installs street lights. Tests electrical loads and circuits by use of ammeters, voltmeters and phasing of circuits with phase meters. Assists in installation of overhead and underground wires. Assists in splicing and maintaining wiring system for street lights. Keeps trouble truck, answers trouble calls, makes necessary repairs under all types of weather conditions.

 
Position Requirements Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate.

Should have some experience as a journeyman lineman; completion of recognized apprenticeship.

Should have considerable knowledge of approved methods, material and tools used in line construction and maintenance work.

Should have knowledge of principles of electrical theory as applied to electrical circuits and ability to apply knowledge to work problems.

Should have knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.

Should have knowledge of all types of transformer connections used in system.

Should have ability to climb poles and work at moderate heights and to handle high voltage wires exercising proper safety precautions.

Should have skills in the use of line tools and testing equipment.

Must be ITS certified.

Should have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Should have the ability to learn and observe proper safety precautions, assist in first aid and mouth to mouth resuscitation.

Must have a valid Georgia Class 'A' Commercial Driver's License.

Must live within a 30 minute driving distance to the Electric Department Operating center.
 
Physical/Environmental Requirements The primary work environment of this position is in field, the candidate will be exposed to extreme weather conditions and will be on occasion required to perform manual tasks. These tasks will include but are not limited to the following (lifting, pulling, pushing, climbing and walking over rough terrain).
