The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures furthers the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, screenings, programs, initiatives, and collections. Welcoming visitors from Los Angeles and around the world, the Museum works in active partnership with motion picture artists and specialists, scholars, staff, and diverse communities to contextualize and challenge dominant narratives around cinema, inspiring discourse, connection, joy, and discovery.

Reporting to the Vice President of Digital Content & Strategy, the Senior Product Manager will work closely with stakeholders across the Academy and help conceptualize state-of-the-art digital experiences to immerse, entertain, and educate museum audiences. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with a driven focus on improving user experiences with digital products; they are an exceptional project manager with strong understanding of mobile-first design approaches, third party platforms and their relationships to and integration with enterprise systems, and a skilled presenter with the ability to communicate technical information to stakeholders with varying levels of knowledge.

This role works with cross-functional teams to design, build, roll out, and iterate upon digital products that fulfill the Museum’s mission. This position will be responsible for identifying opportunities, gathering, and analyzing audience needs, creating product specifications and prioritizing their roll-out into a product road map.

You Will:

  • Manage the day-to-day of existing digital products.
  • Conduct audience research. Understand and represent user needs.
  • Work with a range of internal and external constituents, including outside vendors and various departments across the Academy Museum and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (e.g., Curatorial and Exhibitions, Education and Film Programs, Visitor Experience, Collections Management, IT, Marketing, Museum Store, and the Academy’s Library and Archives, etc.) to conceptualize digital projects and align stakeholders around digital products.
  • Define product roadmaps through a transparent and collaborative process.
  • Gather and prioritize product requirements.
  • Create Scope of Work documents for various vendors, negotiate contracts, create project timelines in coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Efficiently manage project schedules and budgets and proactively communicate with stakeholders. Create and update workflows to maintain effective and efficient collaboration across departments and stakeholders.
  • Ensure user goals are met.
  • Work efficiently with cross functional teams of designers, software developers, content producers, and project managers.
  • Lead regular planning sessions with the core team and stakeholders across the Museum.
  • Explore technology trends to help develop competitive analyses and identify opportunities.
 
Position Requirements

You Have:

  • 5+ years of experience in product management.
  • A balance of both analytical and design sensibilities.
  • Experience with managing complex digital projects with multi-platform integrations from conception through development to testing and implementation.
  • Experience with digital product evaluations and a proven track record of focusing on user goals.
  • Experience with leading meetings and presenting technical information in engaging and easy-to-follow ways to stakeholders of various levels of technical knowledge.
  • Proven ability to identify opportunities of improvement in project workflows and implement changes across cross-functional teams.
  • Impeccable understanding of all stages of digital product design and interrelationships with user experience for on-site visitors and digital audiences. Understanding of Design Thinking is a plus.
  • Strong history of collaborating with graphic and UX/UI designers to implement user-centric front-end design.
  • Experience in building iOS and Android apps.
  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of digital technologies in museums and entertainment and proven interest in expanding and innovating in this field.
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems with Salesforce integration, digital platform CMS development.
  • Strong documentation skills.
  • Ability to maintain a keen attention to detail, multitask, and work well under pressure.
  • Familiarity with project management software such as AirTable, Slack, Asana; basic knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite software.
  • Familiarity with Agile project management workflows.
  • Knowledge of coding languages.

  • Prioritize and successfully organize multiple activities effectively under minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrate strong, effective, and written and oral communications, relationship-building, and presentation skills.
  • Strong team player.
  • Natural tendency to be curious, positive, and creative.

The expected base salary range for this role is $85,000 to $90,000. The actual base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and other factors permitted by law. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.
