Description

SUMMARY

The nurse assistant/caregiver is a person who, under the supervision of the nurse, assists the nursing staff by performing selected nursing procedures and routine duties in caring for the students. All functions performed must be within the scope of training received. The nurse assistant/caregiver is directly responsible to the supervising nurse.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Performing various student care services including but not limited to:
  • Gives and/or assist with oral hygiene and special mouth care.
  • Assists students with dressing.
  • Cares for student’s hair or assists when needed.
  • Provides incontinent care.
  • Changes student’s position as needed.
  • Serves meals and assists feeding students as needed.
  • Assists students to ambulate and/or transports students via wheel chair or stretcher as needed.
  • Assists with physical examination.
  • Observes and reports unusual student behavior.
  • Appropriately clocks children in and out when needed.
  • Assists with helping parents pick up/drop off their child.
  • Responds appropriately to fire alarms and weather/disaster alerts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements
  • Must be a high school graduate or the equivalent
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Demonstrates effective multi-tasking, time management, and stress management skills
  • Demonstrates strong work ethic to achieve Sproutlings and organization goals

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

1. Must be capable of climbing ladders/stairs using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.

2. Must be able to stoop by bending forward at the waist and bending body downward.

3. Must be able to kneel by bending legs at knees.

4. Must be able to extend hands and arms in any direction.

5. Must be able to stand for sustained periods.

6. Must be able to move about independently to accomplish tasks.

7. Must have ability to push using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.

8. Must be able to pull using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in sustained motion.

9. Must be capable of lifting objects up to 50 pounds from a lower to higher position or to move objects horizontally from one place to another. Requires substantial use of back and upper extremity muscles.

10. Must withstand substantial movements of the wrist hands and/or fingers.

11. Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

12. Must be able to distinguish smell, taste, and temperature.

13. Must be able to assist with evacuation of residents.

The employee frequently lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
