Job Summary:


Occupational Therapist are responsible for evaluation, planning, directing and administering Occupational therapy modalities of treatment as prescribed by a licensed physician. Administers treatments and Occupational agents as prescribed by a referring physician in an effort to restore function and prevent disability following injury, disease or physical disability.

Assists patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning, while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities. The staff therapist coordinates, delegates and supervises responsibilities assigned to supportive staff (OTA, Rehab Technician, etc.).

The staff therapist participates in operational aspects of the department, maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities. Provides input in formulating budget, assists in evaluating department performance versus budget controls and takes appropriate action to remain in budget guidelines. Ensures that patient charges are accurate and entered on a timely basis. Participates in all infection control, departmental equipment training, organizational safety and fire safety programs.

This individual must have SNF/LTC experience.

Common Responsibilities:

  • Observe patients doing tasks, ask them questions, and review their medical history
  • Evaluating patient condition regarding physical and basic mental health.
  • Demonstrate exercises—for example, joint stretches for arthritis relief—that can help relieve pain for people with chronic conditions
  • Educate a patient’s family and employer about how to accommodate and provide care
  • Recommend special equipment, such as wheelchairs and eating aids, and instruct patients on how to use that equipment
  • Identify potential fall hazards and recommend removal and/or accommodations.
  • Maintaining professional knowledge and technical progress in order to provide clients with the best treatment program available.
  • Complying with federal, state, and local certification requirements.
 
Position Requirements

Ideal Experiences Include:

  • Minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Licensed by State of Kentucky as an Occupational Therapist
  • Experience working with geriatric population preferred
  • Good interpersonal and public relations skills.
  • Solid analytical, creative, and problem-solving abilities
  • Able to assist and coordinate with others.
  • Able to use computer in basic word processing, email correspondence, and Excel application
