GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

Under general supervision, administer and support enterprise IT systems installation, operations, maintenance, and enhancement. Perform application upgrades and patches in alignment with change management processes. Coordinate with vendors for installation, support, and design work. Contribute to the completion of projects by participating in meetings, proactively communicating requirements, and meeting scheduled deliverables. Log and assign requests, track progress, and maintain open communication with customers and IT peers. Serve as subject matter expert and provide customer consultation, training, and support to facilitate technology adoption. Execute and monitor backup and recovery processes for all data systems. In addition, manage the countywide phone systems and devices.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

System Management (60%)

  • Administer and support enterprise systems to deliver a high quality, high availability solution that meets the business need. Configure, test, deploy, and maintain system applications, upgrades, and patches, ensuring that interfaces between other business applications remain functional. Contribute to the completion of projects, including upgrades, software installations, and migrations. Proactively communicate project schedules and logistics with customers and peers, participate in meetings and provide technical input. Responsible for phone system troubleshooting, moves, adds, and changes. Responsible for cellular/smartphone procurement and support.

General Administrative (20%)

  • Serve as subject matter expert and provide customer consultation, training, and support to facilitate technology adoption. Create documentation for administrative tasks, change management, and configuration settings. Maintain vendor relationships required to support systems. Enhance personal proficiency and knowledge of systems and technology. Stay current with IT industry trends and explore ways to effectively apply new technologies to the work of Garfield County Government. Provide input on hardware and software standards.

Service Desk (20%)

  • Provide technical support for the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) and their onsite and virtual public meetings and end users of the BOCC conference and meeting sites. Troubleshoot, diagnose, report on, and resolve problems associated with relevant information technology resources, audio-visual, and IP telephony equipment in assigned areas of responsibility. Assist with creating, modifying, and maintaining domain users and file server shares within a Microsoft server environment. Assist with maintenance of Active Directory, including user account provisioning and management. Provide Help Desk, telephone, remote, or onsite support and ongoing troubleshooting assistance to employees regarding information technology and IP telephony hardware, software, systems, and other related items.

Performs other duties of a similar or related level as necessary or assigned.

  • Change management: General knowledge of change management best practices and ability to manage the transition to minimize impact and downtime.
 
Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

(Any combination of experience and education that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities determined by Garfield County may be substituted for the above requirements.)

 

Minimum Education & Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent. Three years of experience managing data centers, servers, and virtualized environments; experience installing and maintaining operating systems and participating in IT projects.

An Associates Degree in computer technology or a related field may be substituted for one year of experience.

Previous IP Telephony and Audio-Visual experience is a plus.

 

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Current Cisco, Microsoft, CompTIA, or equivalent certification preferred.

 

Note: This position requires a pre-employment background check, including a Criminal Check and Motor Vehicle Record. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a Criminal Background Check.

 

Work Hours

The standard work hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. However, additional support for operations that run on differing schedules may be required after hours or on weekends.

Required Travel:

This position will travel to various facilities and offices around Garfield County. Some meetings may be scheduled outside of regular work hours or on weekends. Additional travel may be required for training and educational meetings.

In addition, the position involves eye/hand coordination and manual dexterity to use office and other equipment.
