Since 1971, Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board has provided a comprehensive continuum of high-quality, essential, and community-based services to citizens of the Peninsula who are affected by mental illness, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorders.
The Regional Crisis Stabilization Unit is an 11-bed residential crisis stabilization / ambulatory detox program offering an alternative to or diversion from an acute inpatient psychiatric hospitalization. The multidisciplinary approach offers rapid access for brief intervention through psychiatry, nursing, therapy, psychoeducation, peer recovery supports, a structured milieu and comprehensive care coordination. Community served: Adults 18 - 64
This program operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The Therpaist I manages a caseload of clients with mental illness and/or substance related disorders for a Regional Crisis Stabilization Unit in coordination with agency’s Crisis Continuum, agency’s Clinical Services, and other Region-V CSBs. Participates in a multidisciplinary approach which provides rapid assessment, evaluation, crisis intervention, psychiatric and medical monitoring. Uses a brief stay approach for treating diminishing acute symptoms and psychiatry conditions preventing need for hospitalization. Incumbent provides psychoeducation, individual and group services supporting care and working collectively to provide stabilization and engage with discharge/transition planning.

Requirements: Master's Degree in Social Work or Counseling and a minimum of one (1) year of clinical experience including therapeutic counseling, crisis intervention and case management functions. Must provide proof of registration for supervision toward licensure with the Virginia Department of Health Professionals (LPC or LCSW) with 90 days of employment. Must be registered with the Board of Counseling to practice as a QMHP-A.
As a condition of employment with Hampton – Newport News CSB, you are required to provide proof that you are fully vaccinated for COVID 19 or fit within an exemption under the law.
