POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Digital Marketing will be responsible for leading the strategic development and oversight of the winery’s domestic and international websites; digital and direct mail campaigns; and member acquisition and retention events with the key objective of building enduring patron relationships with Opus One. The ideal candidate must be able to lead and refine processes for data collection, database management, analysis, segmentation, and targeted outreach. They can quickly uncover new opportunities to optimize and build our business, take ownership of key tools and resources, and must be able to align and organize with cross-functional teams toward key objectives. They will have a genuine curiosity for testing new and innovative approaches to direct marketing technology and will take a data-driven approach in annual and long-range planning. Additionally, this role will develop and manage a professional Direct Marketing Team to execute the tactical activities required to achieve plans as well as to always ensure the highest level of customer support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Leadership & Management

  • Develops and coaches the Direct Marketing team to deliver the highest level of patron satisfaction, ensuring that all customer touchpoints are consistent with a leading global luxury brand.
  • Establishes and maintains open, collaborative relationships with direct reports and fellow team members and inspires team commitment to providing exceptional service, alignment with other departments, and creating efficiencies in process and procedures.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Hospitality, supports training of Guest Relations team on membership, compliance, direct marketing activities and customer service issues.
  • Supports the Direct Marketing team, providing trouble shooting, critical customer service support and order capture/processing and follow up during peak sales periods.
  • Monitors the quality and consistency of data captured from both direct sales and visitation at the winery.

Writes and delivers quarterly and annual performance reviews of direct reports. Plans and executes consistent touch-base meetings. Creates individual development plans.

Financial and Strategic Planning

  • In collaboration with the Vice President of Communications, Director of Hospitality, and Financial Planning & Analysis Manager, the Director of Digital Marketing is responsible for assembling the annual and long-range plans and overall P&L for the Direct Marketing and Membership programs, including annual volume and revenue forecasts, and planning departmental operating expenses.
  • Oversees the campaign development for the Direct Marketing (digital and direct mail) and Membership channels to achieve annual fiscal goals while enhancing the image of Opus One.
  • Establishes and follows a process for tracking critical business metrics.
  • Collaborates proactively with Information Systems to advance progress on technical innovation in email marketing, mobile interface, website functionality, order processing, customer service and CRM system.
  • Tracks performance to plan, prepares monthly reports for Board of Directors and participates in management meetings, representing Direct Marketing.

Customer and Vendor Relations

  • Using customer data, leads development of key consumer campaigns and events that engage patrons, stimulate brand loyalty, and increase lifetime value.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Hospitality to create estate-based experiences for VIP Patrons and members.
  • Oversee and lead the growth of our allocation membership program with acquisition and engagement campaigns. Determine unique product offerings that enhance the benefits of membership and the image of Opus One.
  • Identify global opportunities for enhanced connections with Patrons.
  • Develops and maintains key business contacts with vendors and consultants (Forter, FedEx, Commerce7, Avalara, etc.)
  • Expand corporate gifting program.
  • Lead VIP Patron and member visits as appropriate.

Customer Data Management & Analytics

  • Using Opus One’s CRM database and Power BI, etc. develop analytics and performance indicators for all customer programs and use to refine future plans.
  • In collaboration with the Data Analyst, creates and manages the algorithm set and the parameters within CRM for segmentation and maintaining relationships with key customers.
  • In collaboration with Information Systems and Director of Hospitality, supervises the maintenance of CRM database, including the management of data entry protocols and maintaining data integrity.

Website Marketing & Communications

  • Optimizes the functionality (front and back-end) of the Opus One website, including e-commerce functions and mobile access through collaboration with the Information Systems team, and our website support vendors.
  • Lead development of overall social media strategy by platform with timing overlay against campaigns.
  • Develop strategies to grow organic website traffic while respecting the Opus One image.
  • Collaborate with Vice President of Communications for tracking of digital press communication.
  • Identifies and prioritizes areas for ongoing website improvements, QR code and hidden page development, and other technical advances.
  • Core Member of the Brand team responsible for delivering a consistent brand experience across all channels.

Additional Functions:

  • Maintain, update, and expand knowledge of viticulture, enology, and the Winery by participating in educational trainings offered by Opus One and outside sources.
  • Speak knowledgeably about Opus One vintages, representatives, distributors, and retailers to better assist customers in the selection of wine or wine-related items.
  • Flexibility of schedule including weekends and evenings as appropriate
 
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Eight to Ten (8-10) years of wine managerial experience (combination of luxury DTC, membership management, and wine-related IT optimal) B.A or B.S degree in marketing or a related field
  • Proven leadership skills with ability to inspire and motivate teamwork
  • Knowledge and experience with DTC compliance, strong retail sales/public relations skills and experience
  • Skilled in thinking and acting strategically, across multiple functions with the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Strong knowledge and proficiency in data software: Microsoft Office Suite (required), and Microsoft Dynamics CRM, Commerce7, and Google Analytics, Excel, MS Excel Skills.
  • Clear communication skills and comfortable working with all levels of the organization, especially the Management, Executive Team, vendors, clients and customers.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • MBA or marketing discipline preferred
  • Foreign language skills (French, Japanese, German, or Italian)
  • Knowledge of viticulture, winemaking, wine marketing.
  • Experience using Photoshop, HTML, and Asana.

COMPENSATION: Base Compensation Range: $120,000 – 160,000 USD annually*

* The base compensation range is base salary only. In addition to base compensation, all roles are eligible for individual performance bonus and company bonus that range from role to role.
