Description

BASIC FUNCTION:

Serves as an apprentice to a line technician by constructing, replacing and maintaining electric distribution lines, structures and equipment. Actively engages in an apprentice program acquiring journeyman line technician skills.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

System Improvement and Repairs (100% of time)

  1. Learn and follow all safety rules and procedures of the cooperative.
    1. Attends safety meetings as required.
  2. Learn line feeds and pole numbering system.
  3. Learn proper procedure of patrolling distribution lines to recognize, report and correct troubles.
  4. Climbs, frames and aligns poles.
  5. Runs digger/derrick setting poles and installing anchors.
  6. Installs and connects transformers and other related equipment on de-energized lines.
    1. Ties in conductors on de-energized lines.
  7. Makes materials up that line technician will need while working up pole.
    1. Learns proper use of handline in sending materials to line technician up pole or structures.
  8. Loads and unloads poles, transformers and other related equipment and learns to properly charge out.
    1. Learns to string and sag conductors on poles and structures.
  9. Become familiar with staking sheets.
  10. Serves on “On call” duty assignment.
 
Position Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalent. No experience is required, but is preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Knowledge of machines and tools, including their uses, repair, and maintenance.
  2. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service.
  3. Knowledge of cooperative rules and regulations, general safety laws, first procedures along with pole top and bucket rescue procedures and CPR.
  4. Gives full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions so that you have a full understanding.
  5. Recognizes hazards in the form of falls, electric shock, flash and traffic.
  6. Talks to others and convey information effectively.
  7. Concentrates on a task over a period of time without being distracted.
  8. Ability to work in a crew environment.
  9. The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
  10. The ability to learn cooperative pole numbering system and line feeds.
