Position Simulation Technician (Sim Tech)  
Description

DESCRIPTION SUMMARY: The Sim Tech will monitor and provide support for the Flight Training Device (FTD) Simulator and Advanced Aviation-Training Device (AATD) to ensure equipment is operational to avoid disruptive or negative impact to training sessions/schedules.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Specific tasks to be performed by the Tech Sim include but are not limited to the following:

  • Update and maintain the Navigation and Communication database systems;
  • Monitor and support the FTD Simulator and AATD to ensure the equipment is operational to avoid disruptive or negative impact to the training session/schedule;
  • Schedule and perform preventative maintenance on the AATDs and associated systems and equipment to ensure there are no conflicts with the customer usage training schedule;
  • Run diagnostics and repair technical issues to include equipment parts test/validation as a part of the routine maintenance of the equipment;
  • Utilize and update FAA maintenance management system/database to track and record maintenance activities;
  • Perform daily pre-flight and post-flight operational checks of AATDs and provide monthly operational and non-operational reports;
  • Perform visual alignments, as part of the routine maintenance of the equipment. The visual alignments are a process to ensure that visual screens are functioning
  • properly;
  • Coordinate with the simulator equipment vendor and facility manager to provide technical assistance with refurbishment and hardware modifications and repairs;
  • Provide customer service support and address customer needs in a timely manner;
  • Perform general equipment upkeep, clean up, and other preventative maintenance to maintain the AATDs, as part of the routine maintenance of the equipment, as required;
  • Maintain AATD toolkit and spare part inventory and submit a quarterly inventory report;
  • Ensure equipment is clean with no debris/obstructions and that there is no damage or failures to switches, bulbs, screens, and/or flight controls so that equipment is maintained in a state of readiness for operation;
  • Perform logistical duties, including receipt and test/validation of parts;
  • Coordinate with the simulator equipment vendor to perform software updates
  • and changes to correct discrepancies on the AATDs and associated equipment; and
  • Provide general technical support when directed by the designated Allen supervisor for classroom and business office;
  • Other duties as assigned.

 
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Individuals must be able to work legally in the United States and be able to pass background check and drug screen.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: B.S. in Computer Technology preferred, or a related field with a minimum of 2 years of experience of flight simulator technical support with a valid Frasca certification. A high school diploma with a minimum of 4 years of experience of flight simulator technical support with a valid Frasca certification is acceptable.

SKILLS and KNOWLEDGE: Allen provided Sim Techs must successfully conform to the established standards required by the FAA and Allen will ensure the Sim Tech has a Frasca Simulator Maintenance Certification. In addition, a minimum of 2 years’ experience in program office support.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Maintaining documentation
  • Performing records management
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Adobe, database management systems
  • Conducting general business procedures
  • Ability to type 40 words per minute is required.
  • Proven problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational and team communication habits.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a FAA security clearance.
  • Must have good communication skills, both oral and written.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Able to sit and work at the controls of an aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Able to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist and reach on a daily basis.
  • Able to perform general flight operations activities on a daily basis.
  • Able to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Covid vaccine immunization is required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
