SUMMARY

Coordinates and leads the day-to-day activities of subordinate staff by performing the essential duties and responsibilities outlines below.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, schedule, coordinate and participate in the day-to-day work assignments for laborer involved in ongoing projects.
  • Direct and perform activities including garbage removal, litter removal and event setup.
  • Lead others and operate equipment including: power saw, power blower, dump truck, pressure washers, sweepers, hammers, saws, axes, drills, shovels.
  • Instruct new employees on the use of tools and equipment, custodial and cleaning techniques and expectations, provides expert advice, and assist in the performance review process as requested by the supervisor.
  • Prepare personnel and equipment records; prepare field and weekly reports.
  • Repair and maintain equipment and tools; order and pick up supplies.
  • Assist in coordinating jobs with skilled trades.
  • Provide manual assistance to other workers and use various types of hand and small power tools such as hammer, saws, axes, drills, seedeaters, backpack blowers, shovels and scythes.
  • Set out flares, traffic control devices and provides work site protection, as directed.
  • Manually dig trenches, fence post holes, and other holes using hand tools; clean ditches, sewers and storm drains.
  • Load and unload materials, equipment, and supplies.
  • Drive pickup trucks, sedans, and other small motorized vehicles in connection with manual work activities.
  • Perform minor repairs or adjustments, lubrication and safety checks on trucks and trailers.
  • Assist in set-ups, room arrangements, and office relocations such as in the set up and removal of chairs, risers, portable turnstiles, and flooring.
  • Pick up trash, sweep floors, dust, wash, disinfect, vacuum, and perform other tasks to keep areas clean.
  • Perform routine custodial work on a comfort station route.
  • Assist in the installation, repair, and maintenance of chain link fences, backstops, benches, signs and bleachers.
  • Perform other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from an accredited two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid US driver's license required.
  • Other pertinent licenses may be required.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Basic computer skills preferred: ability to access online timesheet and receive and send email.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL ABILITY

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and taste or smell.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to variable weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; work in high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock and vibration.

The noise level in the work environment varies from moderate to loud.

Employment Requirements: 

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have a valid WA driver's license with a safe driving history. A criminal background check, driving record review, pre-employment physical, and pre-employment tuberculosis test will be required of the selected applicant. This role is not remote. Successful applicants must live and work in Washington State to perform this role. 

COVID-19 Vaccination  

  • As of November 24, 2021, employees working on or accessing zoo grounds are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. If hired, you will be required to submit proof of vaccination by your first day of employment. 
  • People are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose in a two-dose series or two weeks after a single-dose vaccine.

Pay: $30.25 per hour
