The Microbiology Technician performs clinical laboratory procedures, examinations and other tests pursuant to established protocols including maintaining equipment and records and performing quality assurance activities related to examination performance under the supervision of a clinical laboratory technologist. This role will report directly to the Director of Operations. The Microbiology Technician is responsible for all aspects of testing including: Processing of clinical specimens Performs routine testing, maintenance, and proficiency testing in accordance with current laboratory procedures. Reagent preparation Instrumentation and equipment maintenance Culture organisms Label media and organize workspace for isolation of colonies. Maintain competency in assigned technical protocols according to established operational procedures. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace in accordance with good laboratory practices. Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation and equipment in accordance with established operating procedures including necessary equipment checks, performance testing, preventive maintenance, and quality controls. Assure instrumentation and equipment meet performance standards. Troubleshoot instrumentation and equipment related issues as they occur. Participate in the Proficiency Testing Program as assigned. Notify supervisor of discrepancies and records corrective action taken.   Position Requirements Requirements: Associates Degree in Medical Technology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, or related field NYS Clinical Laboratory Technician required ASCP Certification preferred 1+ years pertinent laboratory experience Experience with most or all of the following technologies is preferred: Inoculating agar plates and broths Pipette aseptically Operate biological safety cabinets Integrated laboratory information management systems   Full-Time/Part-Time Full-Time   This position is currently not accepting applications.
