Also, performs lab tests in the areas of bacteriology, mycology, mycobacteriology, parasitology. Identifies bacteria and susceptibilities, molds, yeast, parasites. Performs clinical laboratory procedures, examinations, and other tests pursuant to established protocols including maintaining equipment and records and performing quality assurance activities related to examination performance requiring the exercise of independent judgment and responsibility. This role reports directly to the Microbiology Supervisor. The Lead Clinical Microbiology Technologist is responsible for all aspects of testing including: Typically works independently on significant assignment, on occasion may examine and approve work of less experienced Technicians/Technologists. Conduct routine microbiological laboratory procedures in all pertinent areas of the laboratory including the reading of plates, identification of microorganisms, and antibiotic susceptibility testing of suspected pathogens. Tests and repeats tests when results are questionable and informs supervisor of any unusual isolates. Modify work patterns to accommodate the daily workload. Perform Quality Control procedures. Supervisor must be notified of out-of-control results. Carry out CAP and other proficiency survey specimens as assigned. Specific Duties: Sets-up and performs a variety of routine and/or complex laboratory tests and procedures relevant to the lab area. Prepares and tests specimens for examination and reports results. Follows established in-process quality control procedures including recording data. Performs routine and/or preventive maintenance on laboratory equipment. Troubleshoots basic instrumentation, culture media, chemicals, reagents, stains, solutions, technical problems, and methodologies. Maintains sufficient supplies at workstation. Ensures and maintains quality control and assurance activities. Uses Infection Control practices and procedures including, but not limited to, wearing gloves, goggles, protective masks, and other safety equipment. Performs other duties, as required. *Ask About Earning up to $10k Sign On Bonus*   Position Requirements Education Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in clinical laboratory science, Medical Technology or related degree required Required Licensure: Licensed by New York State Education Department (NYSED) as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist required Experience Requirements: 3+ years laboratory experience Experience with most or all the following technologies is preferred Inoculating agar plates and broths Pipette aseptically Operate biological safety cabinets Integrated laboratory information management systems Required Skills: Good oral communication. Desire to learn. Ability to read information quickly, interpret and retain it for later use. Listens and gets clarification. Strong technology skills Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook Able to work in a team-oriented environment. Physical Requirements: Standing or sitting for an extended period Able to lift 25 lbs.
