Location: Gaithersburg, MD

We are seeking a skilled chemist/biochemist to join the Nanomedicine team within the Biologics Engineering group at AstraZeneca in Gaithersburg, MD for a summer internship. As an intern on the Nanomedicine team at AstraZeneca you will be expected to become proficient in various methods of bioconjugation, purification of bioconjugates, and bioconjugate characterization. This position requires someone with a strong background in lab-based organic chemistry, an ability to strategically tackle chemical challenges, and work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities:

  • Explore novel bioconjugation reactions between polymeric materials and polyethylene glycol (PEG) or similar linkers.
  • Optimize bioconjugation reactions for high yield and purity.
  • Analytical characterization of bioconjugates using HPLC/MS.
 
Position Requirements
  • Rising undergraduate junior or senior pursuing a bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field.
  • Completion of Organic Chemistry I/II lecture and in-person laboratory courses.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with the design of experiments and accurate laboratory record keeping.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of various bioconjugation techniques (e.g. thiol-maleimide).
  • Experience with HPLC/MS characterization of polymeric compounds or biomolecules.
  • Experience using previously published literature to troubleshoot and design new experiments.
  • Have experience preparing and presenting research reports to a group.
