This document does not create an employment contract, implied or otherwise, other than an “at will” relationship.   Full-Time/Part-Time Full-Time   Exempt/Non-Exempt Exempt   Description JOB SUMMARY Reports to: Chief Programs Officer (CPO) Supervises: Nutrition Programs Team & Community Outreach Team The Wellness and Nutrition Director (WND) is responsible for guiding the nutrition programs and community outreach team, ensuring exemplary program delivery, and building staff and volunteer capacity through leadership development. The WND promotes strategy, planning, assessment, and implementation of collaborative countywide efforts to address food security and advance health equity in Santa Cruz County. Leadership and Management Mentor and coach team members; appraise performance and resolve conflicts as needed. Invest time into nutrition and community outreach staff’s development and professional growth to ensure a cohesive team across all levels Ensure nutrition and community outreach programs staff are accountable for the achievement of strategic goals and performance objectives Serve as an active and engaged member of the senior management team to provide strategic direction for the Programs Department. Collaborate on various interdepartmental teams to find effective ways to better serve our communities. Display passion and optimism for the work, provide vision and inspiration to peers and direct reports, and exemplify Second Harvest’s core values. Oversee departmental interviewing, hiring, and training; plan, assign, and direct work. Enhancing Health Equity and Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) in County Foster meaningful relationships and collaborative partnerships with community organizations and institutions working on advancing health equity, representing SHFB and the specific needs of food-insecure populations. Represent Second Harvest’s work as it relates to health equity and SDoH to community groups and at events through networking, public relations, and speaking engagements as needed. Engage in educational and advocacy efforts related to health equity and SDoH with agency partners, the community, government entities, and grantors such as California Alliance, Kaiser, Salud Para la Gente, Pajaro Valley Health Trust etc. Participate actively in the community, statewide and national organizations and collaborations related to health equity and SDoH to further the mission of the food bank. Innovate with internal and external partners on new approaches to food security and improving health outcomes; be willing to take risks and try new strategies. Program Effectiveness Develop and collaborate with CPO on the overall strategic direction for Second Harvest’s Nutrition Education efforts, including process measures and strategic goals that align with the food bank’s mission and vision. Develop and collaborate with CPO on the overall strategic direction for Second Harvest’s Community Outreach efforts (CalFresh program), including process measures and strategic goals that align with the food bank’s mission and vision. Oversee the development, collection, and analysis of participant data. Use captured primary data to inform and implement program changes, and data-driven decision-making. In collaboration with organizational administrators, serve as an active participant in grant solicitation processes for services and programs associated with the department Serve as a liaison to external organizational partners seeking data on food security and other relevant health indicators. Partner, as appropriate, with academic institutions to conduct research on food insecurity as it relates to health and well-being within specific populations. Enhances the impact of our programs by staying abreast of developments in nutrition education and youth engagement. Participates in the budget process with CPO and maintains a high level of fiscal responsibility. Works to successfully meet and exceed CalFresh contract goals and agreements with the County of Santa Cruz. Oversees other contract and grant obligations with local jurisdictions and other funders and provides stewardship. Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Education, Training & Experience A Master’s degree in public health, nutrition or dietetics, education, or social work; or equivalent experience. Four years minimum experience in non-profit management or social service agencies, or equivalent field. Two years minimum experience in supervision. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Excellent written and verbal communications skills Strong time and priority management skills Effective meeting facilitator and engaging multiple stakeholders on complex issues Adept at coaching and mentoring staff, as well as resolving conflicts with grace Comfortable with public speaking and making engaging and concise presentations to a wide spectrum of audiences. Communicates effectively and respectfully with people from different racial, ethnic, and cultural groups and/or different backgrounds and lifestyles; demonstrates a knowledge of and sensitivity to their needs. Robust report writing and analytical skills Accomplished user of Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams) Bilingual (Spanish) strongly preferred OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must have access to a motor vehicle, as well as valid auto insurance coverage, for occasional driving on the job. Must have a valid California Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record, as documented by a current MVR (will be obtained by the Food Bank’s insurance carrier). It is the responsibility of all SHFB personnel to participate in our Food Safety/Food Defense programs. Must be able to work weekday evenings to best reach the community. Occasional weekend work is required. Physical Requirements Able to safely lift or carry items weighing up to 25 pounds Able to hear normal conversations and speak clearly in person and on the phone Able to see and read documents Able to walk up and down stairs Requires some outdoor work, frequent standing and sitting throughout the day Job Details: This is a full-time, regular, exempt position with a salary of $79,375 - $86,431; depending on experience. Occasional weekend and evening work may be required. Benefits: For the employee: free dental and vision insurance (shared cost for dependents). Eligibility begins on the first day of month following 30 days of employment (i.e. if you are hired June 20th, you are eligible starting August 1st).
