Description

On behalf of MCN patients and providers, this positions primary responsibilities include scheduling appointments, gathering patient demographics and insurance information and coordinating external referrals. Answers incoming phone calls from patients requesting appointments and places outbound calls to patients who have been referred to MCN providers. Schedules appointments and registers new patients in electronic health record. Updates/obtains patient demographic and insurance information and performs real time eligibility to verify insurance. Arranges interpreters for appointments, as needed. Tasks Pre-Visit Specialist with sending new patient packets, as needed.

Takes phone messages for providers, analyzing requests and inquiries from callers. Assesses importance of phone calls using problem-solving skills, takes/routes messages to triage nurse or department members, as appropriate.

 
Position Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • High School graduate or GED equivalent.
  • One year of previous medical office experience. Scheduling experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Patient centered; strong customer service orientation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Accurate and precise reading and writing skills.
  • Good grammar and command of the English language.
  • Ability to work independently, exhibit mature judgment and make sound decisions.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and health insurance plans.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with the utmost judgment and discretion.
  • Promptly and responsibly answer general questions/handle problems relating to all major areas and responsibility.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook. Experience with EPIC Electronic Health Record preferred.
