Description

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Provides professional nursing care under supervision for clinic patients.

  1. Performs general nursing care to patients. Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.
  2. Assists with the preparation of equipment and aids physician during treatment, examination, and testing of patients.
  3. Observes, records, and reports patient’s condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians. Administers prescribed medications as directed.
  4. Oversees appointment bookings and ensures preferences are given to patients in emergency situations. Maintains timely flow of patients.
  5. Greets patients and prepares them for physician examination. Screens patients for appropriate information. Instructs a patient in collection of samples and tests.
  6. Arranges for patient testing and admissions. Schedules appointments and obtains referral (if needed) with specialist offices.
  7. Responds to and refers incoming telephone calls. Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
  8. Formulates and updates patient care plans. Orders, prepares, and inspects patient’s charts.
  9. Responsible for preparation of exam rooms including cleaning and re-stocking of treatment areas.
  10. Calls pharmacies to authorize prescription refills, etc. Obtain a PA if one is needed for a medication.
 
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing.
  2. Valid state license to practical nursing.
  3. Current and updated CPR certification.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Knowledge of the principles and skills needed for practical nursing to provide patient care and treatment.
  2. Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures.
  3. Knowledge of medications and their effects on patients.
  4. Knowledge of patient education principles to develop a self-care program.
  5. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
  6. Skill in administering a variety of examination and treatment procedures. Skill in taking vital signs.
  7. Skill in maintaining records and writing reports.
  8. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
  9. Ability to recognize problems and recommend solutions. Ability to react calmly and effectively in an emergency.
  10. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
  11. Ability to communicate clearly.
