Description

GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION: 

To support the overall communication functions of Wider Church Ministries (WCM).  The primary responsibilities are to manage weekly messaging across WCM ministry teams, to manage the WCM social media accounts and contribute to global justice-related pages on the UCC and Global Ministries websites. Provide technical support, written content expertise (digital and print) and database management for WCM program ministries.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work cross-departmentally within the UCC national setting and with ecumenical, interfaith and global partners to develop cohesive online communications strategy and serving as critical link to UC News department.
  • Work collaboratively with OPTIC to ensure brand consistency and optimal reach.
  • Regularly develop and implement a “story schedule,” that reflects the position’s general purpose    and serves the needs of all teams that are a part of WCM.
  • Assist the Global H.O.P.E Team with producing monthly e-news and continue strategically to deepen and broaden its reach and promote pickup of its content (e.g. in Conference newsletters and constituent listservs). 
  • Supply news/features and other editorial content regularly for UCC News, JPANet, UCC social media, and other internal and external media. 
  • Acquire good photos to accompany stories, adhering to copyright law and crediting the source, whether from photo databases or individuals, offering coaching as warranted. 
  • Use social media platforms, databases, e-news design software, web design software and other digital tools in carrying out the position’s purpose. 
  • Lead effort for development of informational materials before for General Synod.  
  • Participate in WCM ministry team meetings including grant review meetings.
  • In collaboration with the WCM staff and other identified UCC staff, organize online opportunities for field connections between constituents around advocacy issues and support advocacy efforts with updated web content and posted resource materials.
  • Manage and maintain up-to-date web content and calendar, working with appropriate issue staff to ensure accurate and appropriate electronic content.
  • Utilize and experiment with new technologies to raise the profile of the UCC and to attract a more diverse audience.
  • Photograph and record events as needed.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required to perform successfully in this position.

  • College degree in communications or equivalent experience, or a combination of academic study and experience.
  • Understanding of the implications of online technology for the life of the church; ability  to transform theoretical concepts and public policy issues into practical church and community mobilizing efforts.
  • Familiarity with a variety of social media platforms and database management.
  • Demonstrated written and oral English language skills. Including the ability to conceptualize and develop resources and edit electronic content for most effective messaging.
  • Proficiency in or willingness to learn such digital tools as Zoom, MSTeams, Twitter,     Facebook, and WordPress and ease with adapting to new technology especially platforms      used by UCC. e.g. Wrike
  • Proficiency in Office 365
  • Solid editorial judgment and commitment to accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and collegially as well as independently.
  • Desire and sensitivity to work in diverse racial, ethnic, cultural and religious settings with commitment to pluralism in the workplace as well as in one’s understanding of mission.
  • Professional experience in photography and videography.
  • Extensive familiarity with content management systems for web development in addition to familiarity and facility with creating visuals using graphic design tools like canva.com or Adobe products.
  • Knowledge of the UCC and its public witness, polity and structure is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with public policy advocacy is highly preferred.
  • Occasional travel required.
