Job Summary:

The Specialist, Vaults works in the Archive Collections Department under the supervision of the Film Vault and Traffic Manager and autonomously with various vault responsibilities. Primary duties and responsibilities include vaulting and retrieval of materials, strategizing storage issues, inspecting film for potential outside loans, along with general oversight and maintenance of Archive holdings and storage systems.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Organization and prioritization of vault storage locations for a rapidly growing collection of archival material and vault space.
  • Retrieval of archival materials from Archive vaults for both internal and outside users.
  • Maintenance of Archive collections using proper archival storage techniques.
  • Supervise barcode labeling and scanning of inventoried materials.
  • Tracking and re-vaulting of internally and externally loaned materials.
  • Evaluation of Academy film and video holdings for access and disposal.
  • Organization and supervision of major collections maintenance projects.
  • Creation and updating of inventory data and condition reports in the Archive’s Axiell database.
  • Inspection of materials to be loaned to outside users.
  • General collection inventory and cataloging of archival materials.
  • General light maintenance of vault spaces; sweeping, dusting, etc.
  • Working and communicating with Academy staff, donors and depositors, Academy members, film industry professionals, and outside organizations on collection-related activities.

 

 
Position Requirements

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong organizational skills with a strict attention to detail.
  • Basic knowledge of film history and technology.
  • Experience in the operation of film handling and editing equipment and film and video viewing equipment.
  • Experience in the operation of vault storage systems and related equipment.
  • Ability to lift at least 30 lbs. and retrieve heavy items from shelves using ladders.
  • Ability to work in climate-controlled vaults for extended periods.
  • Skill in reading and composing correspondence and reports in English.
  • Proficiency with standard computer word processing and database software.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with Academy staff, donors, laboratory personnel, Academy members, industry professionals, and visitors.
  • Degree in moving image archival studies or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience with bar code scanners and related equipment preferred.
  • Experience in using Axiell or similar film database preferred.

The expected base hourly wage range for this role is $23.08 to $24.04. The actual base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and other factors permitted by law. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.
