Mental Health Technician - Adult 

Description

Wyandot BHN is seeking a dedicated Mental Health Technician that will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, to provide direct client care, interacting with clients either individually or in a group setting.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Interacts routinely with clients in a positive and supportive manner. Monitors and documents observation of client treatment, activities, behavior and conditions, per procedures.
  • Assists clients with personal hygiene needs and activities of daily living. This may include varying levels of assistance from minimal to total care, depending on the client condition (e.g., bathing, toileting and related care, feeding and mobility).
    • Obtains client’s vital signs, height and weight, as assigned, and enters into appropriate system.
    • Monitors and documents nutritional intake.
  • Reports needs for repairs and maintenance to appropriate staff to ensure we maintain a safe, sanitary and orderly environment
  • Conducts selected activity groups, with or wothout assistance, as assigned and qualified to conduct. Documents activities accordingly.
  • Performs admissions and discharges of clients, as well as assessments when asked and includes entry of information into computer system.
  • Supervises clients in special cares areas, as assigned. Advises supervisor and/or nursing staff immediately of any care or safety issues.
  • Assists nursing staff in responding to emergencies.
  • Collaborate with supervisor and care team to ensure shift duties and training needs are completed.
  • Participates in client treatment planning and implementation of unit therapeutic programming -- under the direction of nursing and professional care team.
  • Maintains needed training to meet job expectations, compliance and position competency.
  • Upholds confidentiality and proper safeguarding and handling of Protected Health Information (PHI) as outlined under the provisions of HIPAA privacy regulations [Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996], related policies and practices.
 
Position Requirements

Job Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent. Current or recent studies in behavioral healthcare a plus!
  • Basic knowledge of human behavior or general mental health concepts, and independent living skills (e.g. personal grooming, basic nutrition and general health needs.)
  • Computer proficiency. MS Office experience required.
  • Communicates directly and effectively in a cooperative and collaberative manner.
  • Handles sensitive information in a confidential and consistent manner to ensure complaince with HIPAA requirements .
  • Faciltiate planning meetings with individuals from multiple systems, both internal and external.
  • Interact positively with staff and clients and maintain a professional and pleasant demeanor at all times.
  • Adapts easily and readily to a changing environment and work priorities.
  • Experience / knowledge working in an Electronic Medical Record.
