Job Summary:

The Specialist, Film Traffic works in the Archive Film Traffic Department under the supervision of the Film Traffic Manager. Primary duties include shipping, receiving, inventory, inspection and repair of archival materials from the Academy’s collections and outside sources.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate pickups and deliveries of archival materials using a standard cargo van.
  • Arrange for shipping and receiving of archival materials using domestic and international carriers.
  • Identify and track incoming and outgoing film, video and digital media materials.
  • Inspect and repair 16mm, 35mm, and 70mm film prints loaned for archival screenings.
  • Coordinate the handling and shipping of nitrocellulose film stock.
  • Assist with archival loans and communicate with outside venues and users.
  • Perform general collection inventory, data entry and cataloging using the Archive’s Adlib database.
  • Assist with research and documentation of Archive collections and database records.
  • Coordinate film traffic activities with Academy staff, Archive donors and depositors, Academy members, film industry professionals and outside organizations.

 

 
Position Requirements

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Degree in moving image archive studies or equivalent preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of film history and technology.
  • Familiarity with film and video formats and digital moving image media.
  • Experience in the operation of film handling, editing and viewing equipment.
  • Ability to properly load and drive a standard cargo van; must have valid California driver’s license.
  • Skill in reading and composing correspondence and reports in English.
  • Experience in using standard computer word processing and database software.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage a complex, deadline-driven work schedule.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with Academy staff, donors, laboratory personnel and visitors.
  • Capability to lift at least 35 lbs. and retrieve items from shelves using ladders.

The expected base hourly wage range for this role is $23.08 to $24.04. The actual base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and other factors permitted by law. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.
