Turning Point Community Programs is seeking a Family Advocate II for our Coloma Center in Roseville. GENERAL PURPOSE

Under the administrative supervision of the Program Director, this position is responsible for providing support and advocacy to families, ensuring the “family voice” at all levels of programming. This position acts as a consultant to the programs Leadership Team.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is an at-will direct service position within a program. The position is responsible for the psychoeducation, support, and advocacy to families. Additional support in areas of psychosocial, rehabilitation, and counseling will be provided as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)

  • Works in partnership with parents who are treated as experts concerning their families.
  • Provides forum for educational groups/meetings, to include facilitation of Parent Support Group
  • Develops list of natural and community support resources for members and their families.
  • Develop Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) with members/families as needed
  • Attends all County Family Advocacy/County Collaboration meetings.
  • Attends Family Team Meetings as indicated.
  • Provides psychoeducation and strength-based support to increase protective factors (housing, income, parenting skills, etc.) and to promote familial stability in the community.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to wrap around approach when working with families.
  • Provides outreach to new families.
  • Provides prompt intervention in the event of a crisis, both to resolve the crisis and to notify, when indicated, persons and/or agencies necessary for the resolution of the crisis.
  • Provides ‘on-the-spot’ counseling that is both helpful and consistent with the philosophy of the program.
  • Acts as liaison with resources/supports such as housing, childcare, transportation, education, recreation and socialization, and medication support.
  • Safely transports members and other passengers to and from appointments and activities using own personal vehicle.
  • Acts as a member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team for purposes of plan development; attends meetings as necessary.
  • Provides support to other staff members as needed.

Knowledge Of:

  • Principles and goals of community mental health.
  • Principles and goals of the “self-help model.”
  • Principles and goals of the “consumer-driven model.”
  • Principles and goals of the “harm reduction model.”
  • Psychosocial rehabilitation’s treatment and programming.

Ability To:

  • Work and communicate with staff, clients, families, community agencies and Professionals.
  • Perform crisis intervention strategies.
  • Work effectively under stress and conflict.
  • Exercise appropriate judgment and decision-making.
  • Be flexible and adaptable in any given situation.
  • Work as a member of a team.
  • Work under time deadlines and pressures.
  • Work with minimal supervision.

Schedule: Part-Time 24-32 hours Monday – Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm

Compensation: $ 21.00 - 22.73 per hour

Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES

Education, Training and Experience:

A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is through graduation from High School or obtainment of a GED and at least two (2) years relevant mental health experience to include personal lived experience as the parent/primary caregiver of a child/youth or adult with a behavioral, emotional, or mental health challenge. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, time management, and organizational skills needed. Ability to work independently and interact effectively with County Behavioral Health and other County Community Partners. Knowledge of community mental health resources is preferred.

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:

  • California driver’s license & current vehicle insurance/registration
  • Reliable means of transportation capable of passing vehicle safety inspection if more than five years old excluding all modes of two-wheeled transport inclusive of bicycles, mopeds and motorcycles.
