Job Summary

This position will manage all performance nutritional aspects of the Pittsburgh Pirates Florida Complex League. This will include culturally competent education, medical nutrition therapy, counseling, competition fueling, and overseeing meals. This position will work closely with the home foodservice provider and chef. The focus of the role is performance enhancement, and thus this person will form a strong collaborative relationship with other members of the Sport Performance department.

This role will be based out of Bradenton, FL, will occasionally travel with the Florida Complex League team on day trips, and will travel at least once a year to Greensboro, NC and the Dominican Republic, for oversight.

Responsibilities:

  1. Function as the point person for rehab athletes, driving nutrition outcomes for players of all levels while at Pirates City for rehabilitation from injuries and surgery.
  2. Counsel athletes on optimal nutrition for training and performance, competition, recovery, weight management, hydration, immunity, travel, and supplementation.
  3. Assess and monitor body composition, hydration status, and energy balance and utilize data to provide personalize nutrition, hydration, and supplement plans for athletes to promote optimal athletic performance and injury recovery.
  4. Coordinate and manage all food service and nutrition needs, including collaborating with home foodservice provider (Aramark) for menu planning and food ordering during Minor League Spring Training, FCL season, and during fall/winter camps.
  5. Supervise the Sports Nutrition Assistants at the DSL, Low-A, and High-A levels, supporting the goals and core values of the ML Nutrition vision. This may include being involved in the nutrition care process of high-needs athletes, oversight of menu planning and design, supervision of nutrition budget, and assistance in player transition. Occasional travel to each affiliate to ensure continuity across the affiliates may be required.
  6. Manage the budget for the FCL including forecasting, ordering, purchasing, and tracking expenses.
  7. Serve as an integral part of the player transition team and will work closely with Player Development.
  8. Build and maintain relationships with coaching staff, baseball operations staff, and clubhouse staff at the FCL, DSL, Low-A, and High-A levels.
  9. Assist with creating nutrition protocols and policies, presentations, and education materials. Assist with other operational and administrative tasks, as needed.
  10. Maintain dietetic registration and continuing education requirements.
  11. Stay abreast of current food, nutrition, and health issues and research related to sports nutrition.
 
Position Requirements

Required:

  1. Authorized to work lawfully in the United States.
  2. Bachelor’s degree in clinical nutrition, food and nutrition, or related area, granted from a U.S. regionally accredited college or university.
  3. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in sports nutrition and/or experience with elite athletes.
  4. Registered Dietitian with active registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics; FL Licensure within 60 days of hire.

Desired:

  1. Master’s degree in nutrition or exercise physiology preferred.
  2. Spanish fluency preferred.
