Valley Community Services Board serves as the single point of entry into publicly funded mental health, developmental, and substance use disorder services for these localities.

Description

Valley Community Services Board (VCSB) is looking for a dynamic individual to join our Emergency Services Mobile Crisis Team. Under the direction of the ES Program Supervisor, this employee will respond to requests from the agency and community for crisis intervention services for children/adults, to include limited term community stabilization, mobile crisis intervention, information, and referral to community resources and/or preadmission screening for inpatient psychiatric and substance abuse treatment.

Essential Functions

  • Develop working relationships with area schools, social services, law enforcement and other community partners by actively providing consultation, support, and education.
  • Completes pre-admission screenings for inpatient psychiatric and substance abuse treatment.
  • Responds to emergency/crisis situations involving clients when the primary provider and/or case managers are unavailable.
  • Evaluates and assesses the needs of clients and their families to develop/implement individualized treatment plan.
  • Coordinates admission to state, regional or private in-patient facilities
  • Serves as liaison with other providers, referral sources, school personnel, and families, including initiating and/or attending outside case conferences, team meetings or phone contacts necessary to facilitate a continuum.
 
Position Requirements

Minimum Requirements

All applicants must meet the following criteria in order to be considered qualified for the position:

  • A master’s degree with major course of study in Human Services acceptable by the Virginia Department of Health Professions as a sufficient degree to allow licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a Licensed Professional Counselor, a Licensed Substance Abuse Practitioner, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist or Virginia license as a Registered Nurse and 36 months professional work experience with psychiatric population.
  • Valid Va. driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must currently be or be eligible to become a Virginia Certified Prescreener and Community Stabilization Provider.

Preferred Qualification

The most competitive candidates will have one or more of the following characteristics:

  • Currently licensed as an LPC, LCSW, or similar credential.
  • Currently certified as a Prescreener or Community Stabilization Provider in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Previous experience working in mental health or substance use treatment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Counseling theories and techniques, human development, family systems, crisis intervention, community stabilization, diagnostic assessment, family counseling, Virginia mental health statutes and law and brief therapy.

Skills in:

  • Diagnostic assessment, crisis intervention, individual, group and family counseling with all ages.

Ability to:

  • Relate well in community settings.
  • Provide effective education to community about mental health, substance abuse and developmental disabilities.
