Valley Community Services Board serves as the single point of entry into publicly funded mental health, developmental, and substance use disorder services for these localities.

Description

Valley Community Services Board (VCSB) is seeking a compassionate leader to serve as Mental Health Skill Building (MHSS) Supervisor. The MHSS Supervisor leads a team of mental health professionals to support adults diagnosed with severe mental illness (SMI) or co-occurring disorder.

Summary of Essential Duties

  • Collaborates with the Assistant Director of Behavioral Health for Community-Based services to establish and maintain the Mental Health Skill Building program.
  • Provides crisis intervention, consultation, and direct client services as needed.
  • Builds and invests in relationships with community partners that benefit program clients.
  • Guides, directs, and coaches team members to meet or exceed program objectives.
  • Monitors program for compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
 
Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Psychotropic medications, human personality, growth, and development.
  • Human rights regulations.
  • Laws and regulations concerning confidentiality.
  • Mental health, substance use, and intellectual disabilities and associated symptoms.
  • Basic counseling and therapy techniques.
  • Diagnostic and assessment procedures relating to SMI and co-occurring disorder diagnoses.
  • Mental health skill building services.
  • Casework documentation including individualized service plans.
  • Interagency services coordination.
  • HUD subsidized program.

Skills Pertaining to:

  • Planning, evaluation, and implementation of consumer’s treatment needs.
  • Developing treatment plans.
  • Application of behavioral management principles.
  • Crisis intervention.
  • Providing skill building services for individuals diagnosed with SMI or co-occurring disorder.
  • Casework documentation.
  • Facilitating, mediating, or encouraging client utilization of natural support systems.
  • Oral and written communication.
  • Team leadership and development.
  • Basic Microsoft Office use.
  • Sound judgment.

Ability to:

  • Work with clients of all types and at all levels.
  • Effectively implement interagency coordination of services for individuals diagnosed with SMI and co-occurring disorder.
  • Work cooperatively with both internal and external partners, client family members, and other stakeholders.
  • Exercise sound judgement.
  • Demonstrate initiative.

Minimum Qualifications

In order to be considered for this position, all candidates must possess:

  • Master's degree in human services or related field from an accredited program.
  • LMHP eligible in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Two years of clinical experience working with adults diagnosed with SMI and co-occurring disorder.

Preferred Qualifications

The most competitive candidates will possess one or more of the following:

  • Current LMHP credential in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Registered as a clinical supervisor in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Previous leadership or program development experience.

Salary Information Starting at $42,000 annually, plus benefits.
