Description

Summary

The Clinical Education Coordinator develops and facilitates the Centralized Equipment Pool (CEP) on-line distance education program; develops, implements and supports the Individual Authorizer program; develops and coordinates professional education opportunities for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) clinicians in Ontario; and engages in research and knowledge translation relating to AAC service delivery. CEP’s mandate is to support education of clinicians working in 27 AAC Clinics across Ontario.

This is a temporary part time (0.2 FTE) contract from January to March 2023. This position resides offsite at the Centralized Equipment Pool location; 20 Banigan Dr, Toronto, ON M4H 1E9

Key Responsibilities

  • Development of a yearly education plan for CEP.
  • Coordinate education events (e.g., online courses, workshops, webinars, vendors, journal reviews).
  • Develop and facilitate On-Line Courses.
  • Take a leadership role in the AAC professional community in Ontario. Participate in committee work.
  • Develop, implement and support Individual Authorizer programs and liaise with the Assistive Devices Program as needed.
  • Support and coordinate AAC resource sharing library.
  • Initiate information sharing mechanisms for clinicians to gain knowledge in AAC practice.
  • Promote and support best practice in AAC and knowledge translation to move research into practice.
  • Mentoring, training and coaching to AAC professionals (including clinicians, technologists, and communicative disorders assistants).
  • Initiate and participate in research projects at CEP and coordinate with the CEP team on implementation and review.

Qualifications

  • Must be a SLP registered with CASLPO (preferred adult AAC experience).
  • Must have at least 5 years of experience practicing AAC clinically in Ontario.
  • Excellent clinical knowledge and experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of ADP and CEP policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of service delivery for populations served of all of the AAC clinics in Ontario.
  • Knowledge of AAC best practices, theoretical models of practice and outcome measures.
  • Be familiar with knowledge translation approaches.
  • Be familiar with current and older AAC equipment.
  • Be familiar with educational needs of new and experienced AAC clinicians.
  • Be skilled at use of technology (i.e., on-line course software)
  • Be skilled in organization skills including planning, implementation, data collection and analysis and creative problem solving.
  • Capacity to handle multiple demands and priorities.
  • Ability to relate well to professionals, administrators and vendors.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Experience in teaching and developing course materials.
  • Excellent communication written and face to face.
  • Steady commitment to the field of AAC and CEP.
  • Sound interpersonal skills including facilitating, mentoring and coaching.
  • Experience managing costs and budgeting for events.
  • Mature and consistent approach.
  • Demonstrates and supports a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Preferred experience in research.
