SUMMARY

The Pre-ETS (pre-employment transition services) Mentor will be responsible for the provision of training and advocacy support for students with disabilities enrolled in Pre-ETS programming. This role will provide instruction of curriculum through three delivery methods: in-class direct instruction, day camps, and oversight of a PAES (Practical Assessment Exploration System) Lab. Pre-ETS curriculum covers five required target including job exploration and counseling, post-secondary, workplace readiness, self-advocacy, and work-based learning. The Pre-ETS Mentor will provide enrolled youth with tools for independence and growth towards next steps after high school.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assist enrolled Pre-ETS participants with the development of skills in the areas of self-advocacy, career development, workplace readiness, awareness of postsecondary programs, and independent life skills.
  2. Plan and prepare curriculum and activities for direct instruction and scheduled camps.
  3. Provide career coaching/counseling to a diverse population including but not limited to assessments, career exploration, career decision-making, resume development, interview strategies and job search strategies.
  4. Provide supervisions and guidance in the PAES lab.
  5. Collect pertinent data on participation in Pre-ETS program.
  6. Develop and maintain relationships with community partners to enhance available curriculum and activities related to Pre-ETS instruction.
  7. Prepare all necessary documentation including but not limited to, department monthly reports; incident reports; ID notes; weekly training reports; daily attendance.
  8. Responsible for assuring compliance with all Federal and State regulations and company policies and procedures.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no staff supervisory responsibilities.

 

 

 
Position Requirements

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals, co-workers and supervisors (verbal and written).
  • Must possess social perceptiveness to assess and understand other’s reactions and behaviors.
  • Excellent time management and organization skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Sound judgment; confidence in decision-making skills.
  • Good coaching and work effectively as a team member.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to network and establish relationship within and outside the agency.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Required: Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Required: Two (2) years of verifiable work experience or education in special education or related field.
  • Required: A valid Nevada Driver’s License and reliable transportation and ability to operate a 10-passenger van.
  • Preferred: Experience working with individuals with disabilities.
  • Preferred: Bi-lingual, Spanish-speaking
