SUMMARY

This position will lead the data analysis and visualization for a zoo-wide evaluation initiative aimed at measuring the zoo’s impact and transformation into a learning organization that prioritizes results and continuous quality improvement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Provide expertise in statistical analysis and data visualization.
  • Develop and test hypotheses and predictive models.
  • Use statistical tools to identify, analyze, and interpret patterns and trends.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand interdependencies.
  • Leverage data analytics to provide actionable insights and recommendations to improve the zoo’s mission impact.
  • Work with zoo staff to identify improvement opportunities and best practices.
  • Conduct data modeling of relevant zoo data and the relationships between data.
  • Present findings to zoo staff, the board of directors, donors, and other stakeholders to support data-informed decision making.
  • Design, develop, and maintain reports and visual dashboards.
  • Lead the development and management of a zoo-wide database.
  • Work with the Senior Director to lead the development of an annual impact report.
  • Use data visualization expertise to support leadership in communicating the zoo’s impacts to various audiences.
  • Design, pilot-test, and revise data collection instruments and methods.
  • Assist in manuscript writing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced degree from an accredited college or university and six (6) or more years of related experience in statistics, evaluation, social or natural sciences, research, or similar field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, particularly Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Proficiency in data and statistical analysis software packages such as SPSS, R, or other relevant packages.
  • Experience in quantitative data analysis and database management, and data visualization.
  • Experience managing multiple large projects simultaneously with the ability to prioritize, delegate and train.
  • Experience in dashboard design and maintenance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt communication based on audience and purpose with inclusivity. Ability to disseminate information effectively to appropriate levels.
  • Ability to listen, give and receive feedback in a productive and professional manner. Able to translate vision into planning and implementation.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to balance and prioritize multiple tasks and requests and meet deadlines in a professional manner.
  • Ability to evaluate problems and to effectively solve them in a timely manner. Respond to concerns with empathy and inclusivity. Respond appropriately to conflict.
  • Ability to anticipate needs and challenges, take initiative, ask questions, and provide solutions to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team within diverse teams and environments while treating everyone with respect.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Experience working in an informal education organization such as a zoo, aquarium, museum, camp, or park.
  • Experience with mixed methods research and both quantitative and qualitative data analysis.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • This position may be required to lift up to 35 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to a typical office environment and/or outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Pay: $86,000 - 105,000 / annually plus benefits

Employment Requirements: 

Applicants must be at least 18 years old. A criminal background check will be required of the selected applicant. This role is not remote. Successful applicants must live and work in Washington State to perform this role.
