Description

JOB SUMMARY: To provide leadership of custodial crews; maintaining an attractive, sanitary and safe facility for members, students, staff and public; communicating information in response to inquiries; providing equipment and furniture arrangements for meetings, classroom activities, and events; and maintaining facilities to minimize facility deterioration and damage. Also to perform building maintenance, preventative maintenance and any duties assigned by the Engineer or MOD.

Essential Functions

  • Performs building maintenance and repair involving plumbing, electrical, HVAC, furniture repair, patching, painting, and repair of cleaning equipment.
  • Test chemical and water levels in pools.
  • Inspect equipment for proper operation and take readings such as temperature, oil level, and pressure
  • Test water in boiler/chiller or circulating system and add chemical to maintain proper level of treatment
  • Responsible for custodial tasks in assigned areas
  • Arranges furnishings and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for meetings, classroom activities and special events
  • Maintains supplies and equipment for the purpose of ensuring the required items are available as needed to perform cleaning functions and safety
  • Oversees the work activities of assigned site custodial personnel ( 2nd & 3rd shift) for the purpose of ensuring activities are completed within assigned timeframes and in compliance with YWCA of Minneapolis standards
  • Replenishes supplies in assigned areas/or other areas when assigned
  • Responds to immediate safety, health and/or security concerns for the purpose of taking appropriate action to resolve immediate issues including notification to appropriate administrative and maintenance personnel .
  • Responds to students, teachers, other site personnel visitors, subcontractors, and other vendors for the purpose of providing information and direction regarding activities, safety issues and/or proper maintenance of facilities and/or equipment

Other Functions

  • Attends scheduled unit meetings and in-service training
  • Delivers a variety of items timely manner
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the facilities department
  • On occasions will perform as the Manager On Duty (M.O.D) as needed.

RELATIONSHIPS:

This position reports directly to the Maintenance Engineer who reports to the General Manager. This position will provide work assignments to Facilities Custodians and will conduct inspections of their areas. This position will work in conjunction with the Senior Facilities Custodian to identify and resolve any facility related issues. The incumbent will interact with YWCA staff, members, guests, and MOD’s.

 
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or general education
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in maintenance and repair
  • Working knowledge of pool operations (backwashing procedures and chemical treatment).
  • Experience using floor care equipment
  • Knowledge of safe working practices and good customer relations skills

Preferred:

  • Technical certification a plus
  • Environment Protection Agency (EPA) HVAC/R Type 1 and Type 2 certification
  • Basic knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration, electrical and plumbing
  • Ability to maintain/repair various types of electrical equipment
  • Previous experience in providing work direction to cleaning crews
  • CPO/AFO/CPT Certified

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 5% sitting, 70% walking, and 25% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and in hazardous conditions. Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particle, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat, and risk of electrical shock. Frequently be required to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
