Valley Community Services Board serves as the single point of entry into publicly funded mental health, developmental, and substance use disorder services for these localities.

Description

Valley Community Services Board (VCSB) is seeking a licensed or license-eligible clinician to serve as the lead clinician and program coordinator at the Shenandoah Valley Juvenile Center (SVJC).

Summary of Essential Duties

  • Provides mental health and substance use services to children and adolescents placed at SVJC.
  • Works collaboratively with SVJC employees and other service providers as a representative of VCSB.
  • Guides, directs, and coaches team members to meet or exceed program objectives.
  • Monitors program for compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
 
Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Principles and practices of individual, group, and family psychotherapy.
  • Juvenile delinquency.
  • Juvenile justice system.
  • Ethical standards that govern helping relationships.

Skills Pertaining to:

  • Diagnosis and assessment
  • Crisis intervention
  • Case management
  • Psychotherapeutic interventions with children and families.
  • Oral and written communication.
  • Community education/public speaking.
  • Team leadership and development.
  • Basic Microsoft Office use.
  • Conflict resolution.
  • Sound judgment.
  • Community relations.

Ability to:

  • Understand the etiology and treatment of mental health and substance abuse disorders.
  • Form working alliances with clients, family members, and staff of outside agencies.
  • Work with children and adolescent from many socioeconomic and educational backgrounds who are experiencing a wide variety of mental health and substance abuse challenges.

Minimum Qualifications

In order to be considered for this position, all candidates must possess:

  • Master's degree in human services or related field from an accredited program.
  • Current status as an LMHP supervisee or resident in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Preferred Qualifications

The most competitive candidates will possess one or more of the following:

  • Current LCSW, LPC, or similar credential.
  • Previous experience working within the juvenile justice system.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Clinical experience working with children and adolescents diagnosed with severe emotional disturbance (SED) or at-risk for SED.
 
Salary Information $50,000 - $54,000 annually, plus benefits.
