Job Description:
The Inventory Purchasing Specialist is directly responsible for analyzing and contributing to the organization's purchasing decisions. Analyzing vendor proposals, cost, quality, service, and availability are all key responsibilities for this role. The Inventory Purchasing Specialist role reports to the Director of Inventory and works closely with the Inventory Buyer to support department initiatives.
A primary responsibility of this position is to serve as the liaison between Russell Cellular and our vendors. The Purchasing Specialist will establish strong working relationships with vendors while partnering with other RC associates to ensure our merchandise mix is successful and efficient. The Purchasing Specialist will partner with other operational and analytical (Merchandise Planning, Marketing, Store Planning) departments to achieve unique objectives and proactively solicit partnerships with colleagues regarding vendors to increase purchasing leverage.
Responsibilities:
- Tracks new product launches - ensuring timely deliveries and meeting launch deadlines
- SKU Management and system administration (basic RQ updating)
- Inspect and test new and existing vendor products.
- Document features and benefits of each product inspected and use this information to make their final purchasing recommendation
- Responsible for understanding the needs of RC and then communicating/sharing said needs to potential vendors
- Understands the need to budget and release inventory in a proactive and cost-effective manner.
- Collaborates closely and builds trust among vendors/coworkers to drive desired results
- Responsible for maintaining sales orders
- Vendor Reporting
- Generating iconic orders
- Maintaining pricing - new price sheet setup / promotions
- Editing purchase orders / backorder removal
- Update internal database (new store tracking / store closing / volume incentive rebates)
- Generating purchase orders
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
1. Thorough knowledge of purchasing and the technical aspects of purchasing and procurement.
- Ability to partner and influence vendors/RC Coworkers
- Highly effective written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical and conceptual skills with an emphasis on spreadsheet applications.
- Negotiation Skills: Specialist call upon their negotiation skills to get the best terms possible from vendors which involves having a deep understanding of their employer's goals, price points, and budget.
- Analytical Skills: Analytical Skills are essential for Purchasing Specialist. They call upon their analytical skills to compare vendors based on a variety of factors then use those factors to make the recommendation that best benefits RC.
- Collaborative Skills: works with multiple departments within an organization to understand their needs. Including close alignment with the accounting team when negotiating costs of vendor contracts and regularly auditing invoices.
