Description

Essential Functions:

Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance, or repair work of energized and de-energized underground work. • Lead crew and represent the Company in absence of the Foreman. • Effectively conduct pre-job briefings. • Possess a working knowledge of all aspects of underground distribution. • Frequently works with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others. • Capable of operating a Excavator • Capable of safely operating and maintaining company equipment. • Able to identify primary and secondary voltage • Must be able to switch & splice • Must be familiar with induced voltage. • Possesses knowledge of tools for terminating cables. • Understands grounding procedures. • Understands how to obtain a one shot on a recloser. • Capable of working in confined spaces. • Understands confined space requirements. • Capable of properly installing and removing PPE and cover up. • Understands underground services, infrastructure, and duct banks. • Possesses knowledge of underground switching procedures. • Understands how to phase out a line using phasing sticks. • Capable of planning safe work based on a job print or work order. • Promote safety at all times. • Able to properly inspect rubber goods and PPE. • Inspects the work of crew members • Able to use hand tools on a continuous basis. • Capable of being exposed to dirt and power daily. • Knowledge in identifying underground utility locations. • Possesses knowledge of tools for terminating cables. • Capable of terminating different sizes of cable. • Knowledge of troubleshooting underground circuits. • Able to identify unforeseen obstacles that would hinder safety or production. • Take actions to avoid potential hazards or obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, or falling objects. • Start engines, move throttles, switches, or levers, or depress pedals to operate machines, such as track hoes, backhoes, digger derricks, lo-drill, air drill, forklift, cranes, skid steers, line pullers, or line tensioners. • Locate underground services, such as pipes or wires, prior to beginning work. • Align machines, cutter heads, or depth gauge makers with reference stakes and guidelines or ground or position equipment, following hand signals of other workers. • Load and move dirt, rocks, equipment, or other materials, using trucks, crawler tractors, power cranes, shovels, graders, or related equipment. • Drive and maneuver equipment equipped with blades in successive passes over working areas to remove topsoil, vegetation, or rocks or to distribute and level earth or terrain. • Coordinate machine actions with other activities, positioning or moving loads in response to hand or audio signals from crew members. • Excavate and drill holes • Direct and teach laborers and ground men • Greases, oils, and performs minor repairs on equipment, using a grease gun, oilcans, and hand tools • Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards. Read and interpret plans, instructions, and specifications to determine work activities • Control traffic passing near, in, and around work zones • Measure, mark, and record openings and distances to layout areas where construction work will be performed. • Perform other related duties as assigned. • Able to work for extended periods in various locations, when required. • Performs all other related work as required to complete the job.

Position Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

1-2 years of verifiable experience. • Read and communicate effectively in English. • Able to perform rigorous physical labor. • Able to travel long distances on short notice, when required. • Understands flag and tag procedures. • Demonstrates safe driving techniques. • Able to lift more than 50 lbs. • Must be able to work outside, frequently in inclement weather. • Willing to work overtime when requested.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to fingers, handle to feel; and reach with hands and arms.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position is performed in outside weather conditions.

Must have a current driver’s license, and willing to transfer your driver’s license to the State of Texas within 90 days of hire date.
