About the Role:

The Driver Trainers role at Walters Recycling is focused on People, Process, and Data. The Driver Trainer is a key member of our team, reporting directly to our Driver Training Coordinator, and fulfills a critical role in the operations of our company.

The key responsibilities will be developing, continuously improving and delivering our Driver Training Program.

The ideal candidate has a deep focus on safety, providing outstanding service that "wows" our customers, while driving a culture of improved team member engagement through all departments.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for multiple lines of business and all forms of collection. These include automatic side load, front load, rear load, roll off, semi, Curotto can, cart deliver truck and walking floor trailer, while providing technical advice to drivers of all skill levels (Preferred to know all lines of business).

  • Build a culture of going “Beyond the Curb” with the team, always supporting Walter's core values. Acting with professionalism, confidence, patience and diplomacy while dealing with all employees and customers.

  • Provide outstanding customer service to the driver team.

  • Work collaboratively with HR and the Operations department to motivate and maintain the best team of drivers in the industry.

  • Works in conjunction with the Driver Training Department to ensure new drivers are trained.

  • Helps to ensure compliance with Safety expectations and goals.

  • Review completed Training Evaluations to verify job performance and job time standards with Driver Training Coordinator.

  • Actively foster a collaborative, communicative team environment and drive team engagement.

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of driving standards and instruction guidelines.

  • Attending monthly driver meetings with all drivers, with some as early as 4:00 a.m.

  • Assist with continuous improvement and further development of the Driver Training program.

  • All other duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Class B CDL is required, with the ability to obtain a Class A CDL within 180 days after hiring.

  • To be a behind the wheel instructor you must have at least 2 years' experience as a Commercial Motorized Vehicle (CMV) driver.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Must be able to meet all applicable State Qualification Requirements for CMV instructors.

  • Self-starter who prides themselves on the fact that there is always more work to be done to continuously improve.

  • Basic Typing skills required

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Class A CDL preferred,

  • Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school or higher.

  • Intermediate Computer/Tablet skills – Microsoft Office/Tablet OS proficient with the ability to learn and leverage fleet management software as well as routing software and other systems to drive training goals.

  • Previous experience with Routing software and/or refuse operating system.

  • Two years preferred, of relevant experience in the refuse industry.specifically in residential and commercial collection, both front load and rear load.

  • Five years preferred of relevant experience in the refuse industry specifically in residential and commercial collection, both front load and rear load.

Skills:

  • Ability to assist in writing training guides, standard operating procedures (SOP), business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to assist in effectively presenting information and responding to questions from groups of managers, drivers and internal customers.

  • Ability to assist presenting the curriculum in a classroom format to new employees, and in a large group during driver meetings

  • Strong communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs.

  • Strong customer service skills.

  • Ability to motivate individuals.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Both office and field settings

  • Ability to work in all climates in all weather conditions

  • Ability to travel locally depending on business needs
