About the Organization Established June 15, 1971, Valley Community Services Board is a publicly funded organization where citizens of Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta and Highland Counties can receive Behavioral Health, Substance Use and Developmental Services services. Valley Community Services Board serves as the single point of entry into publicly funded mental health, developmental, and substance use disorder services for these localities.

Description

Valley Community Services Board (VCSB) is seeking an experienced leader to serve as the Assistant Director of Behavioral Health for Outpatient Services. The Assistant Director provides leadership and direction for mental health and substance use outpatient services teams, including substance use case management for adults. As a member of the Behavioral Health leadership team, the incumbent will mentor young professionals and seasoned clinicians alike, contribute to the strategic direction of the Behavioral Health Department, and contribute to VCSB’s mission to meet behavioral health needs of our community.

Summary of Essential Functions

  • Proactively monitors and adjusts services in order to ensure all aspects of the program are compliant with applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Develops, implements, and reviews department policies and procedures.
  • Monitors program budgets in collaboration with the Finance Department and program leaders.
  • Recruits, hires, and invests in team members.
  • Provides direct clinical services as needed.
 
Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Mental health and substance use treatment
  • Counseling theories and practices for individuals, families, groups, adults, and children.
  • Human development.
  • Current national, state, and regional laws, regulations, and standards related to behavioral health.
  • Financial coding, billing authorization, and insurance benefits/utilization.

Skills Pertaining to:

  • Crisis intervention.
  • Diagnostic assessment.
  • Program management and development, including team leadership, consultation, budget management, and interagency coordination.
  • Customer service.
  • Effective oral and written communication.

Ability to:

  • Exercise sound judgement.
  • Develop working alliances with clients and their support network, team members, and external partners.
  • Define and clearly communicate goals and expectations.
  • Effectively manage conflict.
  • Prioritize competing needs and deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in human services from an accredited college or university program.
  • Current, active credentials as a licensed mental health professional (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, or LCP) in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • At least five years of progressively increasing leadership in the behavioral health field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An appreciation for and support of diversity in all its forms, and a demonstrated ability to interact with or serve individuals of diverse backgrounds, including clients, coworkers, and members of the community.
  • Previous experience in community mental health or substance use treatment.
  • Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC).
  • Bilingual.

Salary Information Up to $85,000 annually, plus benefits.
